Arne Slot - Head Coach

Newcastle will park the bus and play on the counter. How do you think Endo will fare against Gordon, who runs 100 metres in 10 seconds, compared to the aforementioned player, who takes 20 seconds? :see_no_evil_monkey:

Gordon has 0 assists and goals from open play in about a year. So you know what happens Sat!

Someone suggested that Steele’s wording was wrong and made it sound much worse. Before I go on a disappointment-filled tirade, does anyone have the video or exact transcript of this?

If people are so interested in what he says, why don’t they watch/listen pressers?

Because they sometimes don’t have the time to do it?

Thanks, mate! I’m really not sure what he attempted with this comment. I might be reading too much into it but it really rubs me the wrong way. In the six seasons preceding that failed Europa League run, we played CL, did alright in it, winning it once, losing the final twice. The way things are going for Slot and his team, we’ll be talking about our Europa League performance this time next year as well, only he won’t be there to watch over it.

The full press conference is here:

The transcript is a bit hit-and-miss. It makes sense if you read it in a Dutch accent. (a bit like me trying to read Scottish closed captions).

He did seem a bit emotional, particularly when it got to the Frimpong question. I’m wondering whether he gambled on his fitness for this game?

This is one thing that is different from last season, in that we had fewer injuries last year, or at least they were spread across the squad and we weren’t trying to incorporate new players amongst that.

Because last season they were still fresh from Klopp’s brutal training regime which made them fitter overall.

They were saying last night he’s scored 6 in the CL already. Has a few in PL also

While it does seem a strange thing to say, there’s no way he’s disrespecting Klopp here like some are insinuating. He spent all of last season thanking and crediting Klopp for the team he inherited.

Perhaps he has just read too many posts calling him a bald fraud and it’s for to him. Perhaps he’s understandably feeling that his own achievements, in winning the league and making excellent CL progress both years, are being disrespected

Of course, that is totally legit.

Lack of interest in the first place, lack of time.

But when the interest is big and they keep relying on little quotes on Twitter, BBC textual highlights… then I don’t quite get it.

Always better to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

Without having watched it, I would assume it was meant to convey that we recognise that qualification is tough and that we don’t take it for granted as we have recent experience of failing to do so.

Lets be honest, there feels like a campaign to get him out simply because we are having a bad season as it is.

What he has stated is fact, nothing wrong with that, its not his fault that we paid £125 million for a player who went on strike and his fitness was found lacking, and when they finally start performing gets rewarded with a broken leg (thanks spurs)…

The fact that certain players think they are undroppable is not his fault, if they are not performing ( and to me it seems causing issues behind the scenes to undermine the manager, they should go to united, we dont do that shit here)…

Then there is Gakpo…that is on slot for constantly picking him even when he is struggling for form…but the journalists smell blood and like those insulting him here calling him shite etc…their like a dog with a bone and wont let go.

Is slot brilliant ? Well a few months ago he was hailed as the next Paisley…now hes being compared to Brendan…ffs.

Yes he has his faults, as we all do, but people reading everything into he answers constant questions is a joke, if any off you has the scrutiny to as he has and asked the same thing each time , the pressure youd be feeling would break you, and that is not part of his job, we as fans should not be revelling in the deliberate mental breakdown of our manager…

We are seeing this in real time, and yet when Klopp went through it we all backed him and rallied behind him, about time people started supporting the team and the manager to get things right…this only my opinion and not an attack on anyone directly btw.

I know stats can prove as much or as little as we want them to, but I just read this on The Athletic website. I thought was interesting.

His win percentage in the Champions League with Liverpool stands at a remarkable 77.8 per cent. His overall win percentage is still a healthy 61.5 per cent. Klopp (62.1 per cent) is the only other Liverpool manager since John McKenna in the 19th century to top 60 per cent. For context, Bill Shankly’s was 52 per cent, Bob Paisley’s 57.5 per cent, and Kenny Dalglish’s 58.5 per cent.

Yeah, for context, others have much more seasons…
