I have friends who are Liverpool fans with wives and kids and when I hear the stuff they watch in terms of movies and series, that’s when I think where do you find the time?
But then they also moan occassionally at what they read Slot said.
If we follow everything about this and it means to us, I’d say spending 15-30 minutes every few days is absolutely nothing.
Please don’t, I also learnt it from the evangelism of the Anti Slot Slimes (ASS).
For clarification. To discuss the sacking of Slot and replacement is totally fine because the results are indeed dismal. But for the small section who make snide remarks, putting labels like fraud on him, I see no reasons for me to be cordial.
It’s part of football culture I have never liked nor respected. Personally, I find it just extremely stupid. Either you are a genious or you are an imbecile; I don’t subscribe to such simplistic thinking.
But on the other hand, it IS part of football culture and every English football board I have ever visited have these “fraud” statements enmasse when things go wrong and the manager is close to getting sacked. Also on this board obviously, though I think it is less here about our own than what I have seen elsewhere in the past.
So it’s not so bad here.
I do hope that those of you who take the greatest offence on behalf of decency and Slot, can stop with the equally idiotic branding of rival managers as “bald frauds” etc. though. It is equally stupid certainly (because everyone who knows basic stuff about football and read, knows that for instance Guardiola is not a fraud in reality, despite having had access to the best players), if more palpatable because it is “the enemy” (though disrespectful and nasty for no reason what so ever and shows a general lack of sportsmanship, though I have come to understand that this is more than socially acceptable “banter” in England despite me thinking it half-witted).
But yes, the genious or idiot thing, I have never understood it and never will.
I’ve just watched the press conference this morning. I felt that Slot seemed in a better mood today. It’s difficult to know what is going on behind the scenes, but I’m wondering if a big thumping victory has raised spirits on the training ground.
Newcastle weathered the first half and they should have beaten them in the second half PSG were lucky to get a point. If you have fast wingers you have a good chance of beating them.
Slot isn’t an idiot. But he makes own goals with some of his comments. Recently, I’ve sensed a defensiveness from him in his pressers which have come with some problematic comments. Often, that shift portends a manager who senses that their place is not secure.
Recently, he made a point of saying something like “Our club expects to win titles, but we’ve only won 2 in 30 years.” If I’m giving him maximum benefit of the doubt, I’d assume he meant “winning titles is difficult, so perhaps measure your expectations.”
But I could also answer that question by saying “our club expects to win titles, and we have won 2 in the last 5 years and were two points away from winning 4 of the last 6, justifying the expectation that we should be competing for titles every year.” But of course, that would make this season feel even more disappointing by comparison.
The smart thing would have been for Arne to say “we expect to compete for titles every year. The league is difficult to win, and sometimes injuries and other changes can make that even harder, but we will always make that a priority because at this great club, our supporters deserve it.” That would have been the right thing to say.
But Arne is trying to defend himself - which I understand and is natural. But they are turning into own goals at a time where you need a manager who knows how to raise up the players and supporters and build a collective mentality.
No other manager has had such funds made available to them… Maybe he meant with the money they have ploughed back into the club, they expect to win titles now…
Either way, it’s his job at the moment to win them
Trouble is, if he means that, he’s in danger of sounding like Roy Hodgson, who once said something very similar…
I really want this to work out for him, but he has scored a few own goals through his actions and speech, and now every word gets analysed to the nth degree. No surprise he’s becoming so defensive - he must feel the pressure.
Id hazard a guess at CBs of yesteryear that were made of biscuits were broken very early in their careers. Your body had to be made of tougher stuff back in the day. These days theres much more onus on winning the ball cleaning and avoiding endangering opponents, therefore these biscuits are able to have careers in football.
Well with a few days of coaching before our encounter with Man C this must be a big test for Arne and his coaching staff. Can they get it ‘right’?
I really feel this could be where I fall off the fence and finally decide one way or another. He’s imo has had long enough. He has an opportunity to indicate his real value here with the time available.
I just hope these few days won’t be used as an excuse for a holiday in some forsaken place in the world.
