Arne Slot - Head Coach

Not really.

He also played some U21 games recently.

We can only speak for ourselves how we rate him, individual fans and different coaching staffs (we don’t know that, but obviously they don’t rate him as highly as part of fans).

I thought he would get a bit more game time since the Palace game, but it’s far from our main issues.

I know that when things are bad then fans generally look at absolutely everything, even at the periphery of things like:

Ramsay should play more often, we shouldn’t have sold Morton, Heitinga’s depurture is the reason, if only Danns was fit, etc.

It’s not a pride thing. It’s a professional coaches assessment of the best way to get the result we need.

I agree with @Hephaestus. Too many people bashing Slot over Ramsey, seemingly because of what Klopp did with Williams and Phillips.

I think the slide has been too significant and too prolonged. For a year he’s been unable to find the answers. Quite the contrary.

He must be a capable coach so I don’t know why he’s been found wanting but the fact is, he has.

The urban myth of that situation is that Klopp used some superhuman man-management wizardry to convince Williams and Phillips they were premier league defenders, game them a big Teutonic bear hug, and sent them on. They bossed it and we finished third.

The reality is that the whole team was restructured to account for the fact that we had a league one defensive partnership, the midfield dropped deeper, the full backs were less adventurous, and the team lost a lot of it’s attacking drive. That’s why we limped over the line on the last day and needed Alisson to score a miracle goal along the way. Klopp spoke about needing time on the training pitch before he could make the change.

So the question for Slot is do you do that kind of reorganisation to play an experienced lower level right back. Or do you just drop a midfielder who can play the position in there instead.

No way some people still think Slot can turn it around. The guy has been shite since March of last year.Him changing the formation or benching certain players won’t make a difference.

For me it’s getting worse. He’s shown he has no answers as he keeps doubling down/back to the same old and being found out each time.
To be fair it’s worst than Rodgers would at least tried different shit. The same old shit just doesn’t cut it for me.
Against City once again I didn’t have a clue what we where trying to do. Ok there were good even exciting moments in the second half however even then it was a confusing mess.
I’m very much with @Kopstar on this. If he isn’t gone at the end of the season I think we will be completely fucked.

Serious question. If he isn’t gone at the end of the season, what then?

For those of you who are all in on the idea of him being shit coach who isn’t going to win anything ever again, what are you going to do when the club doesn’t sack him (which I think is a strong possibility)

That’s not entirely true. We won 8 and drew 2 of the last 10. Scored 21 goals and only conceded 6. Won 3-0 at Arsenal and 4-2 at Man U.
It was our best run of results over the season.

Sit and watch us playing for mid table mediocrity and trying to have a run in a domestic cup!
Watch powerless as good players leave and the club having to pay over the odds for journey men and goats!
Just like you will.

We aren’t a club who make rash decisions when deciding on managers. There will always be managers who would love to come and manage at Liverpool. We aren’t Man Utd. Luis Enrique is a possibility , Xabi ofcourse has to be the favourite considering the immediate support that he gets.

I’ve been on the Slot out brigade for a long time. He had some good ideas when he first came in and those ideas refreshed a side which had gotten a bit monotonous in Klopp’s final year. But the football that we played after we clinched the league last year was boring as well.

Slot started well this season but it’s clear that while the players haven’t given up on him, his tactics have proven to be sterile and risk averse which isn’t the liverpool way.

He doesn’t want to rely on Ramsey which is frustrating too. The guy is a championship level RB and should be getting in to our team as a third choice RB ahead of Gomez.

I am not saying he’s a shit coach. There are some good points to him as well. He’s improved players like Soboszlai. It’s just that he talks a game about attacking football when the last 15 weeks or so has been mostly about liverpool playing LVG meaningless possession ball.

Massive respect for what Slot accomplished last season. He’s a title‑winning manager, and last year gave me memories I’ll always appreciate. But right now, it’s just not working.

Over the last calendar year we’ve basically performed like a lower mid-table side. There are plenty of reasons and excuses you could point to, but I honestly don’t see Slot being the one to turn this around.

It’s starting to feel a lot like the end of Rafa’s (and Houllier’s for that matter) tenure for me. Huge respect for everything he achieved (and everything Rafa dealt with ownership‑wise), but it also felt like he’d run out of solutions and was maybe even making things worse toward the end.I can handle Liverpool going through tough spells (I’ve seen plenty of them) but what really drives me mad is how often we’re being out‑fought and out‑run. The talent is there, but the structure and intensity just aren’t.

If we have any real hope of pushing for a Champions League place this season, I think a change has to happen and it has to happen now.

In defense of Slot , he’s had to integrate a lot of players which isn’t always advisable. There has been some huge changes at Liverpool.

Jota’s tragic death definitely leaves a mark on players.

Players leaving.

Quite a lot of incoming players in the transfer window.

I can give him the benefit of the doubt for all those. But not when we aren’t in the CL places. We have too good a team to not be in the top 3 (even in a bad season)

If it continues like this I’ll dial back my interest. I’ll look at our scores, of course, but I won’t do everything I can to watch every match like I have done since Klopp arrived. I’ve been a Liverpool fan since 1970 and I will be one until I die, but there are degrees of involvement. I’ve had periods before where I lost some enthusiasm, Hodgson for example, late 90s. I’ve got plenty of other things to keep me occupied and I’m sure that’s true of everyone else on here too.

I’ve criticized Slot a fair amount but to be honest I agree with him on Ramsay. He was a top prospect when he joined but his lack of football in key development years really show. He has struggled in lower league football when he has seen the field the last couple of years.

Rhys Williams started the last 5 games, we won them all. We won 6 out of the 7 games he started that year.

It really isn’t a stretch to praise Klopp for his man management skill there. He took a player who has no business playing at this level and made him believe he did.

That absolutely was good management, not sure why we’d pretend otherwise.

Klopp learned from his mistake as well. As someone else said the team structure was completely changed by having the midfielders back in their normal position and we started creating chances again. Nat and Rhys weren’t great but playing them allowed other things to happen. Slot has made a number of mistakes in the last 12 months and learned bugger all from them.
