But here you are not making sense. A poster on a forum “obligated to make sense?”
I’m not sure you meet your own criteria here. Having said that, the transition from Klopp to Slot was handled very well… it was a huge achievement for all involved based on the fit of Slot to the previous squad.
This other transition, the fit of Slot to a squad built by Hughes… has been a different story. Eiminated from the squad are the elements that made Slot successful. Gone are the wingers who are good at 1v1s or the versatile striker who can press from the front.
Gone is the versatile inverted fullback (Geertruida / TAA) who could tuck into midfield but has the versatility to overlap… hence I can undertand his experiment with Szob.
Aye, I think discussions on whether he has handled the RB/Ramsay situation properly miss the bigger picture. There is now a growing body of evidence that for one reason or other Slot is not comfortable/capable of looking outside of a small core.
Last year it was observed, but understandably waved away as not a problem given the results. But success with this sort of attitude (limitation?) is not really sustainable. You eventually either have your core players run out of steam, or when faced with a challenging situation you are unable to get anything out of the otherwise capable players who have been marginalized. Your DoF can bring in new players to replace the ones you’re not using, but you’ll just end up with a different collection of capable players on the outside looking in.
Every situation with every player is maybe individually explainable and excusable, but when you take a step back and look at how many players have been affected by this then I think it speaks to something bigger and problematic. I don’t think you can be a success at Liverpool in the medium or long term having such a limited scope on which players you can make use of.
You are replacing 1 player not 2 and it is only in the FB area, which is far less an issue as a CB and we have always had a strategy of covering that area with Mo being on that side, therefore the change is nowhere near as pronounced as 2 slow CB’s
Slot is well within his rights to not play Ramsay if he doesn’t think he’s up to it. The lad missed a lot of football at a key developmental stage, and even if we are missing Bradley, Frimpong and Gomez, Endo is a better option than Ramsay. Slot sees them every day and he will make the choice.
Even though he’s out for the Sunderland game, the point is well made that we miss what Szobo brings to the midfield if he fills in at right back.
Slot needs to use a few more players than he typically goes to, we can all see it, but that hasn’t really been his style. Slot will live or die on results, same as all managers. No CL and he will be gone. And even if we do qualify for next season’s CL, there will obviously be a review and it might not be enough to stay.
I was pro Slot for a long time, but now I’m at the point where it’s not really working, and if he is replaced it is understandable. Mind you, I would never disrespect a Liverpool manager. Slot won the league. He has talent. He did really well for us. But for a while now we have been stumbling along.
If there is a review and he is allowed to continue, he will get a reset from me and my continued backing. There have been some extraordinary circumstances this season. But on the whole, we still should be doing better, so I see a parting of the ways coming.
every team needs there Wes Browns, John O’Sheas, Johnny Evans, Javier Hernandez’s, Federico Macheda’s, Tom Clevery’s, Phil Neville’s, Darren Fletcher’s etc etc…
cant keep relying upon the same 15-16 players game after game
Putting aside the fact that I think the club - Slot on down - are treating the kid poorly, the refusal to play Ramsay begs the question why we even bother to put him on the bench.
Surely there’s got to be a defender in the U-21s who would be worth a spin? Even as an emergency option?
Not sure there is. We’ve just signed several CBs because there isnt really one there we are confident in. Of the full backs they’re either out on loan or had their careers stall because of injury. It wouldnt surprise me to see further investment into the u21 and below squads
I flip and flop, ideally I want him to stay and work it out but then I watch the performances, where we can only play well for periods and rarely put in a 90 minute performance.
Also, what gets me is how we go from playing well, get a goal and then change from being front footed and positive, to back footed and negative.
There are sparks of improvement then we are back to step 1.
I think this is what is frustrating fans, yes we all know that our squad is thin through injuries, but there are still players that can come in to rest and rotate players.
We are carrying out of form players but don’t give others a chance to help and to see what they can offer. Also, seeing someone in training doesn’t always relate to what happens on the pitch, Teves was supposed to be awful in training but the opposite on the pitch.
Just try something different and stop playing our most energetic midfielder at FB
Personally, I think Ramsay has been around long enough this season to get a start… Why, because if nothing else the kid will give 120% effort up and down that line. Effort, that is the thing we have been short of from others at the moment…
Even if he is classed by many as a Championship level player at best… then we need to remind ourselves that Sunderland were a Championship side 6months ago, so it might even itself out eh.
One thing I read a while back; and I will try and find the article again; someone in ‘the know’, was stating that Slot has never bothered watching any academy games…! If there is even a grain of truth in that, then it is shameful.
Throw the kid in Arnie lad… give him a chance
Naaa. The fact they are sending signals they are not removing him it’s likely a well planned PR front. It could also be a tactic to ensure players respect him until he’s gone. This way we get some points until the new coach takes over.
As far as when they’ll announce his departure, who knows. end of Feb gives them a bit of time to make arrangements…and if not end of season.
Sigh, he is really not endearing himself to the supporters every time he gets into an interview. It’s also hard for him in the current football environment that Silence is Golden is literally impossible (and definitely appears not in Slot’s character).
I just don’t know how he’s supposed to answer that question. It’s not up to him whether he stays or not. The only folks who can answer that don’t sit for press conferences. They just wait for curated puff pieces put out by LFCTV to say anything at all.
