Arne Slot - Head Coach

Ward left a year before Klopp left.

Yes, and the problems regarding unresolved contracts and a lack of succession planning were his legacy.

There were 2 years left on both contracts.

You could technically blame Mike Edwards.

Only if technically was a synonym for incorrectly.

How long do you want to row back though.

It was handled poorly, but given the uncertainty over the manager you can see how they got into the pickle with Trent, Van Dijk, Salah and konate.

Jones was playing well enough but hasn’t started a game in 5. Meanwhile, we’re shifting Szoboszlai to right back and flogging our underperforming midfielders.

Perfect example of his poor use of resources.

Edwards wasn’t here when Jurgen left!

Yep Macca hasn’t been nowhere near his best but starts over Jones in the last 5 games.

This is what we don’t like, players have to perform if not then try someone else, even moreso when Jones has been good with most of hie performances this year.

I mean, Ward was only in the job for a year - hell, he announced his departure only a few months after taking the gig. Klopp had another year and a half after Ward’s announcement and for a year after Ward left.

I don’t want to pin the blame on any one person; just noting that when Klopp left, there was a lot of longterm squad issues still unresolved that were inherited by the next regime.

I didn’t say he was - I said Edwards and Co, so I’m including those who followed or where part of the backroom staff we don’t really hear much about - and yes, Edwards had left before Klopp, but he had still contributed to what Klopp found himself with at the end of his time here for better or worse.

The squad? It’s a little from column A and B. Yes, it needs 2-3 key additions (to my mind a winger, central defender, and a defensive midfielder who can pass well). And at the same time, the squad is currently being made to appear smaller by Slot not fully using what he has.

A spell in the wilderness after this year, up to five years? It’s impossible to tell the future, but I think it is much more likely that we will be competing at the sharp end rather than falling away.

In fact, with the sort of additions I mentioned above, plus fresh vision being cast, a clear pattern of play being worked and belief starting to rise up again, anything is possible. I think we have more than the makings of a great team, and with a bit more it can all click for us, quite quickly.

If we’re having a bit of fun nailing colors to the mast, or making predictions, put me down for Alonso to win the Prem next season as Liverpool manager.

If we sign one winger - does he replace Chiesa, Gakpo or Salah?

The three players I suggested would be a bare minimum. Midfielder. Defender. Winger.

Personally I would sign two wingers, but I’m not sure who the manager will be or how he will set up his side.

Of the three players you mention, Chiesa is barely used and Salah’s legs have gone and he looks to be set for a move to the Saudis. Gakpo looks set to stay longer, but he definitely has his limitations. If someone like Bayern Munich wanted to pay good money for him, I would snatch their hand off.

Quiet in here today…

Must be down to that dominant away performance against a team previously unbeaten at home.

From averaging 1.2 points per game over the previous 20 we’re now averaging 3 and are going to win the league, champions league, and World Cup.

Sigh, we’ve had a few games this season that gave us false hope, only to be completely disastrous again in the next one, or the one after that. Despite the relief I feel now that we’ve won again, there’s still a great deal of skepticism. The confidence was lost somewhere along the way, but there’s really no point in writing it over and over; it’s just frustrating in the long run, but we can’t change it anyway.

Slight exaggeration…

No way are we winning the EPL this year!

I think we’re OK in defence if Konate re-signs.

I would definitely be signing two fast pacy wingers. I think it’s the biggest hole in the squad right now, and the area where Slot is most hamstrung by his squad (and his sucessor would be as well, if it comes to that)

Luca Stephenson may have been given a look but he’s currently starting at DM for Dundee United and playing well. He was their RB last season. Neither Ramsay or Stephenson are going to be long term starters for us but Stephenson has been a much more robust player so there is a chance he would have developed a bit more trust than Ramsay has.

Isaac Mabaya got another bad injury playing for Wigan at the start of the season and hasn’t reemerged.

Other than that there is Josh Davidson, your classic “great lad but not good enough” type, DJ Esdaille who isn’t yet established at U21 level, Carter Pinnington a CB who had played in the FB roles at times, Terence Miles another trier and I feel like I haven’t seen him in ages not sure if he got injured. Alvin Ayman was a £1m signing from Birmingham City and has sometimes filled in at FB but honestly he’s found his time here pretty tough.

So yeah not really anyone I would chuck into the first team picture.
