Given by the end he had to bring in his own man on a short term contract to get deals done, i would say it was more the other way round, that Edwards and co left Klopp with having to transform an ageing side. That probably contributed somewhat to Klopp leaving when he did. That has then probably been made worse by the club moving on the youngsters who had covered for any gaps in Klopps squad.
Ultimately you either believe in your system, and the set up to foster it, or you don’t. He has had plenty of time to set up both. That he does not trust what he has implemented, after nearly nearly 2 years, is in damming.
The arrogance is adhering to a system that can only work if the stars align and if they do not, it is the universes fault.
Yeah, nobody said it would be exactly that just, as pointed out, thinking it can’t happen is foolhardy. I genuinely think Slot at the wheel has us sleepwalking towards that possible end. Nothing dramatic, no hyperbole and no overreaction just legitimate concern and your brusque dismissal of posters with concerns while positioning yourself as the voice of reason is grating to say the least.
This thing about our squad not being strong enough, to me anyway, raises the question - strong enough for what.? It’s not like we are playing the elite teams of Europe on weekly basis, coming up against elite players.
We are predominately playing against teams in the PL, that most, if not all, our bench players/substitutes would not only hold their own against, but are probably good enough to getting a starting berth in these opposing teams.
Having watched our team across the full tenure of Slot, amongst many things, I feel he is showing himself to be incapable of two things in particular…
He is incapable of getting players of a high skillset (of which we have many), to play to their full ability, both sporadically, or consistently.
He is incapable of integrating the entire squad into a working, playing, determined unit to take on all-comers.
Every single player on the books at LFC across every level, is there based upon the ability they have got… They are not outsiders, they are not lepers, they haven’t got two heads… they have got ability most of us could only wish for…
The team on the pitch looks disjointed, the squad behind the scenes looks disjointed, and most importantly, the club from top to bottom is now looking disjointed…
Sorry to say, hold your hand up Arne, for this is all on you..!
Get a grip will ya, and get some togetherness
we have 2 RB’s that are injury prone,
an aging CB,
another CB thats been poor this season, and is out on contract this year,
an aging LB
a defender who can play across the backline but is injury prone
an aging winger thats been poor this season
then there Grav and macca…
but if we replace Endo and Chiesa with players who Slot is happy to use,
and a winger, we’re in great shape?
I don’t think threadbare is the right word. There are a lot of players struggling for form. Before the season started, I think if anyone had said that Mac Allister, Salah, Gakpo and Konate were going to be huge problems for us, I think they’d have been laughed off the forum.
Not threadbare but indeed I agree here there are a number of players that have been seriously underperforming.
The four Mascot has mentioned but you could add another 3-4 on top of that who are seriously nowhere near what they could be, in addition you’ve had those who have been in and out due to injury and those who took a while to settle in.
My major concern is some of them have started to settle and its still nowhere near good enough, I can accept a close loss to Man City but some very very poor sides have taken home points.
I honestly believe that with a little bit of jiggling here and there, along with a new player or two, we could be challenging for the league next year.
There is too much quality in this team, unless you’re willing to tell me that last year was a fluke.
Agree, it’s been the established players who have disappointed me this season: MacAllister, Salah, Gakpo, Konate, Gravenberch, Van Dijk, even Allison has looked a bit patchy at times. Some of our poorest performances have come with most of last year’s team playing.
It’s actually the newer players, such as Wirtz, Ekitike and Kerkez who have looked better just recently.
The squad depth looks worse than it is because Slot is over reliant on a core group. Yes we need additions, which is not his fault, but it’s not wholesale.
