Carrick has picked up 21 points from 27 so that counters your point too. Its the lamest argument ever we can’t sack someone it might get worse.
FSG arent going to sack Slot just yet, theyre working to a plan and its, for them, still on course. Theyre less concerned with our expectations and disappointments than we realise. In the least, how can they sack him, they approved the madness over last summer. I actually think he’ll get a budget in the summer and we’ll have to do it all again. Not open for sack until at least autumn 2026.
Every situation is different.
Again look at Spurs.
Today they have a manager changing his GK after 15mins and three goals down…
Conversely, were Alonso to come in to take over, it would give him a couple of months to assess the players at his disposal, and begin to implement his ethos and programme now, rather than trying to do it in the summer - a World Cup summer at that - and have us in a far more cohesive situation to start next season.
Nothing more to add
Alonso may not be willing to take over now though.
Maybe Alonso has indicated to the club he is available to answer the call in summer? And his preference is to not come in before then, and so the club are letting it play out with Slot this season. Therefore the only real choice right now, before the summer, is between keeping Slot or bringing in a caretaker. (Hypothetical, as we don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes).
Edit
Lovely to see you @ubermick
I hope life is going well for you, back in Ireland, right?
Our form was far worse a few months ago. It is nowhere near as bad as it was previously. That doesn’t mean it’s good or even acceptable - but we’re in still firmly in the mix for a UCL place right now.
In theory he may be tempted to do just that? I don’t know him personally obviously, but let’s say he arrives in time for Brighton away and the team performances drop off even further, worse than now, losing most league games because some senior players are still not putting their shifts in … then what?
He shafts himself unnecessarily and becomes the bloke that is currently in charge of the previous champions team completely broken in pieces.
I suspect he will put his feet up watching the World Cup and then maybe tap up a few young players waiting for the next move in.
This has been the hill I have been dying on all season. We know too much about these players to be treating this season as if its a true reflection on their quality. However, sometimes a season like this leaves a stink. Where cracks and distrust starts forming between players who no longer feel like some of their teammates have their back. With every further game I am inching towards that being our reality that we are sleepwalking into. Something where the personnel moves needed to address it will be more extensive that would have been required had made a change earlier or made even a hint of improvement with the current manager.
Look at Man United
If he doesn’t manage to get this team to beat the current Spurs team at the weekend i’ll find it really hard to tune in whilst he is still manager. I will like, because I love LFC but not once have I enjoyed a game this season and it just sours the mood.
We should not have to rely on some managerial unicorn to make us better than the sum of our parts. That was the whole point of the head coach structure that was put in place.
I don’t think Salah’s loss of pace has anything to do with Slot. He’s just cooked. It happens to the best of them.
I think secretly he’ll be dreading that game. Anything less than beating Spurs will be totally fucking unacceptable.
We’re back in game-by-game territory for me. We must beat Spurs and then get through against Galatasaray. I actually think we’ll do both but it wont change much. He needs to be gone.
This gets branded about every week, “if we don’t beat so and so then…”
We lost to Wolves. Wolves. Wolves. Wolves. Bottom of the table Wolves. Wolves that in Jan were preparing for life in the championship.
The end is nigh.
I did and there’s nothing to see…
But surety that was because each Head Coach was meant to follow the same style and tactics that we’ve been using?
That way we can have easier transitions when one leaves.
That all went out the window when Slot decided to completely change how we played.
That will be absolutely embarassing at Anfield…
Drawing to this version of spuds would be pretty bad. Losing to this version of spuds would be downright unthinkable…
