We weren’t willing to pay what was being asked and age was a factor in that too. Rather than try and keep him on the contract he was on, selling/allowing him to move on was in some ways a nice thing for the club to do. Accepting that it was his best time for a final big deal in his career and that offering him the same wasn’t something we felt we could do.
Stop guessing at how grief might affect someone and how long that may last. Be that to try and rationalise a poor season or moaning about others using it as an excuse. We can never know so all it’s doing is creating an argument around a tragic incident.
Pretty simple concept really but argue amongst yourselves if you wish, reminded why I’ve been giving the place a swerve.
Not always first choice hmmm stretching the truth a bit. Started 38 of 50 games totalling 2959 minutes as a starter out 3336 total minutes this revisionist history is just amazing.
At some point we’ll get more of an insight. I suspect that it has more of an impact than some realise, but I don’t think it can be the sole explanation for this season- not that I think anyone is suggesting that.
It’s probably best left for another day, when we can look back on the season with cooler heads.
I don’t think the money we got would have been on the table next year, and it was probably just too good to turn down for a player who was probably going to start declining at some point soon.
The bigger issue to me was replacing him and what he brought to the team. Gakpo really doesn’t offer anything close to his contribution, and Rio is 17.
you are purposefully trying to shift the conversation.it wont work.
YOU brought the family into the discussion. not us.
Thats the only issue i have with your post, nothing to do with how long it takes his teammates to process grief and how it may or may not have affected our form.
the ‘simple concept’ you refer to isn’t the reason i took issue with you.
and reading my words i wrote, that is even more simple to understand.
Potentially, but maybe also explains some reticence to move on Slot because it potential replacements may be put off by the prospect of being hired by a guy who himself may soon be out of a job, and so maybe they are working through resolving Hughes’ position before taking any action on Slot
A lot of discussion about the right time to change Managers,on the assumption Slot is finished.
I don’t believe we could do any more harm bringing in a decent manager now than what staying with Slot till the end of the season would do.
A new manager would get an idea of what is wrong, smartish, and may start to make a number of adjustments..if they didn’t work anyone would be hard pressed to blame the manager.
It is possible, given we do have good players who are seemingly jacked off, the season may not be a total wipeout after all.
I,for one see no issue if a new guy comes in anytime soon.
Cannot see how we can be worse off.
