Well said, Arne got us number 29 but things have gone stale since then for numerous reasons.
For me it will be, thank you Arne and all the best and hope you learn and succeed with your next appointment.

Edwards picked Hughes, and I doubt FSG will want to replace Edwards (nor should they, as far as I’m concerned), so I can’t imagine they’ll sack Hughes. They’ll give him another season and let him decide whether to stick with Arne and stake his reputation on him figuring it out with another big transfer window, or sack Arne now.
The club is facing a vital summer of transfer business, whether you keep Slot or sack him. Much of that work is being done right now. I can’t imagine that FSG will want to interrupt all of that. Indeed, it would be easier to hire a new manager and recruit in accordance with his tactical approach now, instead of finding yourselves facing this same malaise in October with your preferred manager elsewhere.
Almost 300 posts since last I popped in here. So excuse me for not wading though it all.
I have nothing to say other than we are a mess and rather than the quality of the EPL getting better it’s actually fallen to a ridiculous level. Letting Arsenal have a walk in is just not on.
Mo and Virg say hi!
Ten title’s in 1 season deserves freedom of the galaxy ![]()
Must have City or Chelsea owners as his backers ![]()
Priceless response
. To be fair its the norm on here people make statements that are clearly untrue then double down.
Diaz wasn’t always first choice, as there were games with Gakpo starting and Diaz coming from the bench, so what are you talking about?
It isn’t that simple though, is it.
A lot of those minutes, especially for Slot were at Centre Forward.
For what it’s worth… I do not think Liverpool FC will get better than we are at present, under the coaching and management of Slot. If anything we are going to get worse… very quickly.
It is not just his tactical nous that is questionable, nor is it the inability of the team to interpret what he actually wants, or how he wants us to play and still expect to win…
I feel there is an undertow to his whole set-up that works against what LFC is renowned for… the historical and social backstop that mirrors who we are as a well supported club. This is something I feel Slot just fails to understand.
If they can’t talk Jurgen into coming back for a couple of seasons (even Rafa come to that)… I think as a fan/s, we are in for a few seasons of hurt because the ‘doubters into believers’ spirit of the club that was sculpted to perfection over the previous number of years, will be/is being eroded beyond repair by the naivety of the coach/manager that is constantly failing to turn the negativity surrounding him, into hope and confidence of him as a person, and as a tactical genius we all hoped he was.!
Well, Gakpo eventually joined the top earners, you know.
And? What is your point in saying that?
I reckon he’s gone after the Gala game, win or lose.
Really? Did your hear something?
Phil Thompson said he thinks Liverpool will win the PL title next season. If that is true, he must have heard Slot is being replaced before next season starts. IMO, it can be the only way it will happen…
For a guy that seemed to have it all 12months ago, failing to push on and letting everything that was a positive about the club slip through his fingers so rapidly, does not instill the confidence from me as a fan, we will ever reach the dizzy heights again under his instruction. Pity really, but I feel he has only himself to blame.
Overall he was one of our most used players. But in the league games, the important ones, he was not selected to start in 25% of them. A meaningful number of those 28 starts was in a new position, in part because of confidence in a younger alternative we were preparing to give the big new contract to. That already justifies the comment of not always being first choice.
I loved Diaz and I think it was wrong to move him on. Not in the sense that the mistake was in not replacing him with a more like for like replacement, My point was the much more basic position that we should not have let him go at all in a summer with that much change already happening. But the context of my comment was why the club would not think it right to extend him on a higher salary in line with what other clubs were willing to pay and you can see why we thought that. We did with Virgil or Mo because their status in the team was clearly very different than Diaz’s
He came in with a reputation of a very astute tactician, and he certainly showed a lot of tactical insight in the title season. One of the things that I thought was most impressive about him last year was that his in game management was absolutely spot on, and his half times always seemed to improve us. A few of his players said that Slot always seemed to know what the opposition were going to do before they did.
So I very much doubt that he is lacking tactical insight. I think a few things a going on.
The club (including Slot) have been quite complacent about the challenge this season, and we’ve been left short in a couple of area. A manager who has always had a reputation for using fast pacy wide players going into a season without a single winger capable of beating his man, except Ngumoha who needs protecting, is crazy.
As the season has got away from us, Slot has struggled to make the most of the resources at his disposal.
The players seem to be struggling with the mentality needed to see out games of football, and Slot seems incapable of rallying them in this regard.
A few of them also look to be struggling for fitness.
We have to stop thinking that the only people who can coach us are people who have done it before. Jurgen was exhausted and Rafa was yesterday’s man a decade ago.
If they decide to boot Slot, there are many coaches out there who should be considered before going back to lads who were toxic or knackered in their first go.
I think we’ll win the league as well, but we need to buy wingers. That’s the glaring issue. Two belters and maybe even three.
I fancy us for the league even if Slot stays, which might sound mad. But if he does manage to survive this nightmare season he’ll be a better coach for going through the experience of everything going wrong. And if the club manage to repair the issues in the squad, he has already shown he can deliver.
(I think he will go on balance, by the way, but I don’t think it’s quite the certainty some of you do - maybe 60/40?)
Some here have him gone after the Wednesday game, irrespective of the result. Some expect him to be sacked before the season ends, and most can see him given his P45 as soon as the season ends. I’d give him a chance of at best 30/70 to stay, but he really needs to start winning games on a regular basis. And I can’t see any sign that things are truly improving as we speak.
By the way, I don’t believe that a couple of new wingers will address all our issues, because those are all over the pitch: defence, midfield, attack. It’s a collective problem, confidence, fitness, mentality. Sacking Slot and bringing in a good new head coach for next season might possibly help to address these issues, because the former looks pretty much helpless these days.
If the Saudi Pro League rumors are true, it sounds more like a soft landing for Hughes in the event that FSG decide to sack him. Which I would find unlikely, for the reasons I described above.
