Arne Slot - Head Coach

I don’t see the logic in that. We play Brighton less than three days later, then there is a 14 day break.

If he was to be replaced before the season is over, then the Brighton game would be the obvious choice. After that, it would be at the end of the season.

And they did it that way to Rodgers ironically.

Is it one or the other?

If he knows what the opposition is going to do before they do it why does he have to make tactical changes at half time, for me he must have set his tactical plan up wrongly in the first place.

No; I’m less connected now than I used to be.

Didn’t we play with pacey Slot wingers against Spurs and we were as shite as ever?

A good insight to our issues especially ourr lack of press both from the front but also as a team in backing up any press and then in regards to how Macca struggles.

Just highlights Arne’s poor tactical setup, although I did think we pressed better for the first 35/40mins against Spurs.

Somewhat fair counter, but I think we saw enough examples of both to support both observations. I think that comes down to the other team being allowed to be good, clever, and well coached as well that we often faced problems that needed to be solved. Lots of games we knew exactly what they were going to do and were ready to perfectly counter it. However, in several games either the opposition did something unexpected or simply were giving us problems in terms of personnel match ups that we had to find solutions for and Slot invariably did that whenever we faced that situation.

The interesting question for me here is how much of this credit can go to Slot vs the players. Ordinarily you would look at a team that adaptable and say it was very well coached if it could do any one of 6 or 7 different game plans and pivot at the drop of a hat. But he hadn’t been there long enough to get credit for that.

I feel Slot will still be in charge next season because of who our owners are, and the fact Slot will bemoan two things at a season end performance debate with FSG.
a) Injuries to key players throughout the season
b) New arrivals disrupted our playing patterns/tactics
He will be given the benefit of the doubt.

If he is given licence for a reset, he will most definitely be walking the plank each and every game if there is no improvement to our style of play and better fortune it would bring

As for me opting for a safe pair of hands in Jurgen (or Rafa), is based upon the prophetic disaster two or three seasons down the line, if the recruitment team get it wrong with the next manager… that includes Alonso. I mean. what if he proves to be no better than Slot… We would really be up shit creek without a paddle then - these are worrying times for fans of LFC
What started as 100% optimism at the beginning of this season, to the reality that we could become mid-table cannon fodder.

No we didn’t.

We played with a 17 year old lad who shouldn’t be relied on, and later in the game a player who only cuts inside to shoot, and another whose legs have gone.

The only one who played like a winger was Frimpong, and he did alright.

Has Hughes gone / going?

I’m eyes deep in work crap today and heard a snippet.

Rumoured. Nothing concrete.

But that negates what was supposedly said, that he seemed to know what teams were going to do before they did it.

Otherwise he wouldn’t have to tweak it as he knew what was going to happen!

Getting back to this season, seems like he has no idea what the opposition are going to do before games and even when they are doing it, he has not shown the tactical nous that we saw from him last year.

He seems perplexed in how to solve problems, but more importantly he cannot force our supposed style of play on the opposition and give them the probems to solve.

What is our playing pattern/tactics?

That is the crux for me he has had 3/4 of a season to come up with a successful one and no one can see one, there is no light at the end of the tunnel!

That is the issue most on here see or don’t see, there seems to be no plan.

There is a plan. Get it out wide to our wingers. But we haven’t been getting it out wide fast enough. And one of them is a one-trick pony. The others’ legs have fallen off. Or something.

I have a couple of mates who play in the same footy team and both support the reds.

I asked them 2 weeks ago what their thoughts were on Slot out? They both said they would give him time. I asked them yesterday and like most they are reluctantly in the Slot out camp.

I think he needs a convincing win tomorrow and against Brighton.

That is the attacking side of our game sorted, now what about that other but, defending?

I don’t like the booing. Slot ‘failed’ to build a relationship with the fanbase. Doubt it would happen otherwise. Slot only believes in his coaching.

IMO we had that special Anfield atmosphere twice this season - vs Villa and Real. This was right after we had that bad run with one win in seven games. The magic of Anfield probably saved him there but he would never admit that.
