Arne Slot - Head Coach

Mine too – he only lets us play like that when his back’s against the wall. When he arrived, we were told he was like Klopp, but he’s the complete opposite of Klopp.

Sorry, but this was pretty much why Wirtz was signed.

Ffs just congratulate him on getting on the performance yer miserable feckers.

If we lose it’s his fault if we win it’s all in the players.

Grrrrrrrr

Have we had anything post-match from him ?

To me, the best thing about last nights win against Gala, was the fact that Slot (since the Spuds game and the crowd booing), actually looks like he has taken a long hard look at himself and reminded himself of why he was recruited by LFC in the first place

He is not a numpty and never was. Not sure why we have been so crap this season, but he just seemed to have lost his way either through complacency/arrogance, or lack of doing the hard yards behind the scenes that brings continued success.

If this guy can restore our confidence in him and we can avoid the upheaval of replacing him as our coach on the proviso he brings back the exciting cavalier football we crave, then surely his role remains in his own hands… Lets despatch PSG so we can lift the mood of the City and our global fanbase, then we can assess if the pendulum swings back to a ‘Slot In’ campaign.

Football eh… what a good win can do to belief…
Now don’t fuck up against Brighton Slotty Lad :0)

I have to admit that I didn’t expect such a performance anymore under Slot’s watch. This wasn’t only a quality performance in glimpses, but throughout, from the first to the last minute, from every player. Yes, Gala might not be the strongest team on the road, but they caused us huge problems two times this season already. This time around, they had no chance, and that’s because our lads played so well.

Also, the most surprising for me was the new-found energy. As if everyone at the club had needed to find themselves with their backs against the wall in order to find back to their true level. Salah and Macca were both outstanding, Konaté and VVD were rocks, especially Konaté, Gravenberch had a superb performance as well. So, all the players who have floundered all season long suddenly found back their mojo. The new players shined as well: Kerkez, Wirtz, Ekitike, Frimpong. And Slot displayed a passion I’ve never seen from him before.

For all those who have compared Slot’s current situation with Rodgers or even (God forbid) with Hodgson, consider this: none of these two gave us such a quality display towards the end of their spell with us. This squad is truly alive, and that’s something I had started to question after all the lethargic matches this season.

As others have said: is this a false dawn, or the beginning of a new-found collective energy and togetherness? Time will tell, starting with Brighton.

Come on, lads, build on this and let us dream again!

Honestly don’t think it’s either of those. More fear of losing and cluelessness about how to fix things. Hopefully last night has helped with both

Someone has definitely had a word.

Gala were extremely poor and they had no outlet up front due to Osimhen picking up that early injury.

But we also saw what playing players in their proper positions does.

I thought Kerkez was immense last night. He really set the tone right from the off. We weren’t going to let them have a moment.

If Slot refused to acknowledge it to himself before, since the Spurs fiasco (the latest of many) he knows now that each game could now be his last.

He can’t afford anymore limp performances between now and the end of the season.

Didn’t he say, “Happy now, ya bastards?”

Good result against a team who are poor away from home

Good performance against a team who are poor away from home

But i’m not going to get too excited by the performance as we’ve been here before, (against Villa, Athletico and Real M).

Lets see how the team and Slot fair in the next several games before giving each other high 5s!

Yeah it was not just a better performance, it was different in so many aspects that it’s difficult to make sense of it. The eyes said we had a different shape and were far more willing to make long passess to get the ball into space than we’re really ever seen under Slot. But the stats also showed that despite having more possession (by a good number) we also out ran them.

This was not a version of Slot’s controlled football that finally clicked. It was a return to what was good about us in the past. I don’t know what to make of that but I hope it is the start of something new rather than a one time trick to get Anfield rocking on a european night before going back to slow pedestrian football this weekend.

Yeah, we’ve had a couple of these situations this season only to be disappointed in the next match.

12:30 KO on Saturday and we all know how well we respond to an early kick off after a European night.

Honestly I’m nervous. There would be anyway. Brighton away are no mugs but our recent slack performances have added an extra edge to the apprehension.

The only time our football made sense this season, for me at least, was in that period when Salah was unavailable due to, erm, different things and Szoboszlai played off the right. The team looked quicker and better in pressing, which was a major change from pedestrian football they played in preceding weeks.

I don’t think we’ll see Salah have many games like last night in what is left of his Liverpool career but if Slot could get him to play closer to the goal, maybe he wouldn’t be as easy to isolate.

That said, last night’s game shouldn’t be used to measure the capabilities of this team - we’re talking about completely stuffing a pretty average CL side that has a poor record away from home. The mental approach should remain the same - come out quickly out of the blocks, swarm the opposition and don’t let the heads drop after the first setback.

1:1 with Brighton, though, I’m calling it right now.

I said in the match thread that their diving and faking injury from the first minute could be counterproductive for them. Seemed to get our fans and hence the team fired up. Arne alluded to this after so must have been checking TAN for my posts
