Ive deleted a few times, for fear of being accused of scaremongering, but this could worsen. I dont think most people want to recognise that. As you say the attractiveness to new players, and retention of better players is now much less, so we’re at more risk this coming window than ever in the last 10yrs. I remember when we couldn’t sign players or kept getting beat to them by rivals. I’m quite sure Real or Barca will be hitting Dom up all summer, and are all the more encouraged.
And where will Real or Barca play Szoboszlai?

Probably on the pitch ![]()
Where, instead of who?

Come on pal, you know at that level they make room if they can get their hands on something better.
Do you think our ability to retain/attract players is less now? Is the greater point.
I don’t think most permanent managers would want to join now. They’ll have very little time to make any meaningful changes, and if this team slides out of the UCL places and gets knocked out of the cups while they’re in charge, it’ll cast a bit of a pall on their start. Easier to come in June with a clean break from the previous regime.
That’s my point, is Szoboszlai better than what they have? It’s a genuine point. I don’t see room for him at Barca. At Real you could argue, but stylistically he’s not what they need next, as they already have Valverde.
We’ll see, depending also on different things like what we qualify for, if there’s a coach change. I think for now we’d be fine in terms of retaining who we want to retain.
What we do with everything we’ve assembled and what we might need regardless who is the coach is my worry and especially if we fail to qualify for the CL or Europe altogether.
Xabi took over Leverkusen when they were deep in a relegation battle. He took a risk and it paid off. Imagine if they would have got relegated. Difficult to recover from that.
I think they might. They get to assess the squad with no pressure. It’s a world cup summer remember. So preseason is going to be shot to bits
There are loads of class managers who would jump at the chance to manage this group of players, let’s not pretend otherwise.
My worry also, get this swap out wrong and we’ll have needed 3 managers post Klopp. Also the turmoil that causes to squad, transfers, reputation, its unthinkable right now, but we are only one big bad decision away from it. You’ll know better, but I feel football has just had a golden age, and here we are in the hangover. The quality just isnt in the game that was 10yrs ago. And in point, nor the viability of suitable managers. I have my doubts about Alonso.
Szob might not be any better, I just know he is the best player in the Prem this season. And that will turn heads, and even faster looking at the state of us.
I’d agree, as in a full manger role, he’s a coach. I still think he would get more of the 21 available points for us now at this point to the end of the season than Slot will.
I know some are afraid, but really, sacking Slot will not turn us into United/Chelsea over night.
There is little point comparing these things, we have to do what we believe is the right thing. Nothing more, nothing less.
Question now is though, what will also happen to some of the football decision makers here, is there also some activity soon? We’ll see.
But lower down, it’s clear that there’s work to do; a better pre-season, obviously some incoming and outgoing transfers and make this a functional team that can go back competing at the top level.
That awaits whoever the coach is, Slot, Alonso or someone never even mentioned so far.
Exactly.
They’re not scrubbers. They didn’t accidentally win the league less than a year ago.
This is how I see it, too.
Several have made the argument that the new man could come in and get a bit of a head start on next season, by running the rule over his squad and seeing what needs to be done in the summer.
That makes sense, but for me, the stronger argument is what the new man would want, and at that point I think they would rather come in and have a whole season, rather than risk being ‘sullied’ by getting involved in a failing season.
Edit
Guess we’ll see what happens. I see both sides of it!
Im fairness , gomez has qualified for all four by most of us if we were being honest.
Agree with most but no chance we should move Bradley or Jones on. Brilliant young players who should get a chance under a new coach. Ali still one of the world’s best keepers. Macca only 27, been overplayed but hopefully plenty left to give
United sacked Moyes after 34 games he had 57 points i remember everyone laughing at that. To beat that we have to win the next 3 games which would leave us 58 points.
19:50h in Boston now. Team Call between the owners and Edwards/Hughes should be done by now.
The latter two now

‘loser tells Arne’
Not sure there is any point anymore in being disappointed about today’s PL result… This team and Slot himself, have placed all their remaining eggs in the CL basket, buoyed by the positive way they got a good result against Gala in mid-week.
I personally think they will beat PSG over the two legs, especially as the return match is at Anfield.
We get through that, and the buzz of excitement for then reaching the final will take hold throughout the fanbase… Stranger things have happened at LFC.
The Slot conundrum remains curious though… Just as we expect a new signing to become a better player at Anfield over a few seasons due to constant training and guidance, should Slot be offered the same respite… In short, is the guy capable of becoming a better coach/manager season upon season by learning from his mistakes, or is the guy too set in his ways or incapable of absorbing and rectifying his own short comings..!!
