Arne Slot - Head Coach

10 hr drive apparently. Including ferry etc I guess.

Is that a thing? It doesn’t seem to have stopped clubs in the past.

Do you really think someone with an ego like Gerrard’s would come in for a handful of games and then leave quietly?

Yes

It may not always be a factor but I’m sure there will have been situations where it is the case.

Lynch touched on this yesterday mentioning a guy who works for Opta, who is a Liverpool fan.

We were outrun in 26 out of 38 games in 21/22.

Probably Eurotunnel. He is about an hours drive from Schiphol. The flight to Liverpool is about an hour or so. Most of the time is actually buggering about at the airport, but I’m assuming these guys have executive everything.

How much of this out running may be due to players managing injuries but continuing to play through them or from being overplayed because of a lack of reliable options?

The lack of fitness Isak had due to no proper pre-season and three players coming from the German leagues and having to adapt to the physicality of the Premier League may be playing a part here, and may help explain in part at least why we are playing a more slower game.

Given that stats for 21/22 (and I assume that is the year we had the run of bad injuries) are similar to this year’s and there were comments following the Gala game (I think from Arne but may have been someone elses interpretation) about not being able to play two games in close succession with a high energy game without seeing injuries, could we be seeing Arne trying to cope with a squad that is has too many players with injuries/ or borderline close to breaking down with long term injuries (I can’t see why he should be given the turnover in squad over the last 3-4 years but the squads performances and results do make me wonder).

About been outrun…

I’m guessing no one has heard the phrase,

“Make the ball do the work”

Maybe this is what slot wants, less running more intelligent play.

I’d be genuinely interested if there are actual stats to back that up. I think I remember seeing stats early on for Wirtz where he was quite high up in terms of distance covered and high intenisty sprints (maybe that’s changed?). Not sure about Hugo or Jerry, but they don’t seem particularly lazy running wise to me, but maybe the actual stats tell a different story?

Ha ha was just going to post the same. Dates back to Bill and Bob I think.
Problem is we can’t fucking pass water.

Yeah, I could be way off the mark here as I haven’t looked much at the stats but Hugo seems to come off most matches around the 70th and 80th minute. Obviously, some of that will be because of the team being without Isak, but given we are not winning a lot of these games it does seem a little surprising he has only completed 90 minutes in around 7 games.

Other than the 1st Arsenal game where Wirtz had 89 minutes, he didn’t record 90 minutes in a match until the December game against Sunderland. He has been playing the full 90 more often since then.

I wonder why though…Does he foresee himself not lasting long in Liverpool??

Because his kids are settled and in key stages of their education.

Sorry for laughing just this seems pie in the sky.

Let’s hope we never have to find out.

Increasing strength during the season would be the problem for Wirtz. This in turn would cause him to be slower and lower endurance. It should have been done pre season. I don’t know what the coaching staff actually did here for the pre season physical stuff.
Personally I would have concentrated on other things than strength so he could do 90 minutes when needed.
It seems to me the pre season approach was wrong. When you have as many matches as we do fitness can not be attacked during the season. Even now I am not convinced Slot has adapted to this. Even so he seems prepared to use it as an excuse without rotating properly.

I find it remarkable he remains as manager.

FSG really couldn’t give 2 fucks could they? You can tell they haven’t got a clue what goes on at the club or on the pitch. Just interested in their annual accounts and whether there’s a chance of CL money coming in. The least proactive owners on the planet, you would’ve thought they learned their lesson with the walrus.

Well said, its almost like FSG have given up on their £4 billion asset…
