Arne Slot - Head Coach

FSG will let Slot continue to the end of the season cos he won the league last season but thats a mistake. I dont buy he won league last season so should get time. This season (and the end of last season) have been a shit show. He has lost the players and the fans.

We may scrape 5th but I doubt it with our fixtures and next week our CL is over.
An embarrassing season as “champions” and FSG are to blame as well.

Got to admit, these past 2 weeks it has become increasingly difficult to disagree with you.

It is an interesting point about the squad. Slot has lost them, that is undeniable - but can a new/better manager get a tune out of them with maybe 2 or 3 good additions? New CB, DM are essential in my view. If they were all playing with confidence in a system that suited them, do you not think we’d be in a good place to get into the CL comfortably next season and then kick on?
Westill have very good players, they are just being poorly managed I think.
It’s not to say we don’t need to re-build over the next few transfer windows, we absolutely do, but this squad is about 10 levels better than what they’re currently doing.

I don’t agree with players being done. They are done with Slot that we can agree on. They need a new voice and direction.
OK, Some aren’t good enough from what they have shown so far but I’m prepared to give them another season under a new manager.
The team go onto the pitch looking lost and confused. They know how to play football so its Slot confusing them.
I mean we have a world class talent in Wirtz yet he finds himself on the right wing. Isak comes on and goes to the right. They both didn’t sign for LFC to play on the right. Slot is baffling them with what he is sending them out to do. Look at VVD last night - utterly confused.

That’s been my position to be honest, but watching VvD these last few weeks and I’m lost. He has been all over the map, and the less we mention about effort the better.

Agree it has to start with a new manager but it feels a long way back.

The club will expect a new coach to try to get the best out of the existing squad and then identify the gaps. That’s what Klopp had to do when he came in. There will be a couple of obvious requirements, at least with Salah leaving and question marks over some others contracts.

Looking at the squad, I don’t see too many substandard players, just substandard performance.

And the new guy will inherit a better squad than Klopp.

I think I agree with you, and it would be moot if I didn’t anyway, since you can’t go out and sign 10 new players, especially not in a World Cup summer (which is another reason we should have done business in January).

But I am still really concerned at the lack of awareness, fight, intelligence, pride on the pitch. I’m really worried these player care more about their Rolex’s and Sarongs than they do about football. I’m concerned that a player who hasn’t even properly planted a flag in the first team yet is turning up to training in a fucking Rolls Royce. I am really concerned that way these check out at the first sign of adversity is deeper that them just not being properly coached.

This summer we lose another two ‘mentality monsters’ in Salah and Robertson, and that’s two more voices from the Klopp era who could set the standard and show the drive necessary to succeed.

We have to hope that this is all down the the players not responding to Slot’s coaching, because if it isn’t, it could be a very long road back.

I said yesterday that the players look overcoached and a few people had a laugh

What I mean is the players appear to be given too many instructions and dont have a default way of playing as we change things game by game. Kerkez is an example I’ve previously discussed. The amount of times at the beginning of the season he let the ball run under his foot or didnt play a pass or make a run was stark. Looked like he was thinking way too much about what he’d been asked to do and the basics went out of the window. Paralysis by analysis.

I’ve seen that with a few. They don’t appear to have the muscle memory to do things automatically and they don’t appear to know what to do with their body. Rondos instead of 5-a-side during training, maybe?

Noooo!! I can’t handle watching Simeone’s brand of football.I hate watching it. I will need sectioning at the hospital if he comes to Liverpool.

I wouldn’t mind Luis Enrique coming to Liverpool though. Not sure how long he has at PSG.

Tbh at the moment that brand of football is better to watch than LFC under Slot this year.
Not that I’d choose him, but… I’ve watched us under Benítez without much backing from the owners, so I’m no stranger to pragmatic football
How much worse can it really be? :smiling_face_with_tear:

Who was that?

On the pitch we need a captain first and foremost. There’s not one player on the pitch that holds up the example or encourages the ‘way’ to play.
However even the best captain material in the world needs a manager that supports the whole squad and knows how to use what he’s got.

Yeah I have critical of the argument that the players in the group aren’t good enough and need a clear out to get back to the required quality, but this bad run of form has gone on long enough that a toxicity has fallen on them. It’s not just us who are sick of the sight of them, they look sick to death of each other. A new manager and coaching set up can do a lot to really quickly clear the air, but my concern is this has gone past the point of relationships and faith in each other being fixable with that. My concern is we may actually need significant player movement again this summer just to get rid of the funk of this year. Maybe that is naturally taken of with the loss of some of the older guard like Mo, Virgil, and Robbo. But I dont think so.

I am in the opposite camp.

I put our current position, form and morale squarely on the manager. I think our squad is under utilised, I think we have some good young players, and we could bounce back quite quickly with the right manager and just a couple of signings.

You could put Pele, Maradona and Maldini in their prime into this team and we would still look shit. The system is broken, the team is not coordinated, and even players who perform to elite levels on the national stage (a week ago) look average in a Liverpool shirt . I don’t think we have a problem of squad quality, simply poor management, lack of identity and purpose.
