I was on him before a ball was kicked in anger. But one I particularly remember was when Coutinho scored a 25 yard worldie against Southampton, I think, and he said that was all down to his system ![]()
Sounds about right for Brent Rodgers
Slot would be getting Hodgson levels of abuse if we hadn’t won the title last season.
It has bought him a buffer from the ridicule aimed at Hodgson and rightly so imo.
He still needs to be gone at the end of the season though. He’s 99.9% lost the fan-base and there’s no coming back from that.
More like bringing in a PR person or team to talk in front of journalists instead of him instead!
The fact he even thought it, let alone say it out loud, shows out of touch he is. What would the likes of Van Dijk and Salah be thinking…
I’ve only soured on one Liverpool manager before and that was Hodgson. Maybe Klopp has spoiled me since, but even found Rodgers more tolerable than some of the stuff Slot has been coming out with recently.
I don’t like the way he is talking about us at the moment, almost as if we are an unlucky minnow.
Still, for me, it’s all about the football played, the results it is getting, and how we feel about the future under Slot.
I think he has lost the majority of fans, and while it’s hard to say where the players are with that, it doesn’t look like a tight unit set up to take on the world to me.
I think a reset is needed, and I will be surprised if he leads us into next season. Let’s see.
Yes, unfortunately he constantly talks as if he’s still mentally stuck at a club like Feyenoord. It often comes across as if he still hasn’t mentally adjusted to the standards, expectations, etc., of a really big club like Liverpool. I don’t understand, though, why they don’t do media coaching with him to improve that. Surely the club must have noticed by now how negatively he comes across.
I know what you mean but he isn’t at Hodgson levels because he won a title isn’t a great argument.
We didn’t fall down from any level of success under Hodgson.
Personally his comments are sounding like someone who is under immense pressure. I’d be surprised if he is still here come August.
To be pedantic, arguably he took us up a level (we hadn’t won the league for four years) before he brought us down again.
But he really needs to stop with the woe stuff. Just shut it down. We control what we can control. We don’t worry about what we can’t.
Fascinating listen, thanks @Zoran.
Yeah, it’s a new podcast I’ve been following recently, depending on what’s the topic and who are the guests on the day. But some of the best journalists in the game are there, so for me it’s worth a listen here and there.
I do agree with him in some respect to XG, but only in the way we have been pretty woeful in taking our chances.
Other than that his tactics both on and especially off the ball just seem baffling.
I have no idea what we are, a possession team or a long ball team?
Defensively do we press or defend in a mid block?
We just don’t have an identity or way of playing.
If he is not careful with the way he deflects his viewpoint onto or about others, he will be in serious danger of creating a definite divide between him and the fans, and him and the squad.
I think we’re already there. And if we’re not, we definitely will be if he is here next season.
Yep…but if he’s here at the start of next season and we have a solid start to the season, everyone will come together. Would be massively helped with a strong end to this season.
My biggest issue, is Klopp left behind a fantastic foundation. There was not a club better run in the country. Good mix of youngsters coming through, a footballing indentity on the pitch, balanced team and a united and happy fan base. He even sang Slots name to make it easier for him to come in.
In his first season (when we were winning) there were no significant signings, football style was tweaked but largely stayed the same. This was good, this was sensible.
At some point someone has decided (Slot, Edward’s maybe a combination of the two) we need a major transformation in personal, style, youngsters. We threw £500m at a wall, shipped off our youngsters, and major shifts in what we do on the pitch. The only way he is in a job today is because he/they convinced the owners that major change was needed and this required time. We were a club in transition.
They have lost the fan base, as much of the change has been unnecessary and normal squad evolution was required. Slowly phasing older players out, integrating newer players over time. A phased and planned approach. A problem of hubris is evident. A rebuilt was not required.
Challenge is the club is in a much worse position than what he inherited, for who ever comes in it will be a bigger job.
Yep, exactly what Paisely thought when we transitioned from Shanks. Erm, not.
There is a recording somewhere from the old Chairman, John Smith, ‘this clubs success is based on continuity’.
Tell it to these two college boys.
Yup I’d agree with that.
Funny, I was coming here to share the same podcast - I listened to it last night.
Libero is solid. I’ve been listening to this one for a few months now. The discussions are interesting, and I’ve been a fan of Rory Smith since he started being a regular on Men in Blazers. John Brewin is hit and miss, but I thought he was spot on with many of his comments in this last one.
I’m not especially impressed with Miguel Delaney, who is a regular guest.
