I agree that his tendency to not give 20-25 minutes to non-starters, is a worry for the strenght (and morale) of our squad. Also an issue that starters will get tired by too many minutes, as you say.
Tbf he’s coaching someone else’s squad and still getting to know them all. I suspect with ins+outs over a couple of years he will rotate more readily (as he does with the front 5).
Meanwhile he’s been working fucking wonders!
Yeah I’d sack him.
He deserves 1 more game at least.
If we fail to beat forest he might resign and check himself into an institution
Forest have been much better than Utd. If I were him, I’d start obsessing over this one instead.
I have mentioned it in a few posts.
Arne has been excellent but made mistakes in this game the biggest one not replacing Trent earlier and also not tactically changing our shape to stop their domination of the right side of our defensive 3rd
Agree with everything Arne says, except for the last point.
If we don’t win, 9/10 times it’s because we have underperformed. That’s not being disrespectful to our opponents, by the way, but the simple fact is that we have good enough players and coaching to be winning pretty much every game we play.
I’d say 6/10.
The other four times we got shafted by the refs.
That’s also true. But I’m feeling unusually generous.
Here?
Interesting. When we beat Barca 4-0 did they play badly? When we came back in Istanbul did we play better or did the opposition fail? If the opposition plays better than you because it’s “their day” then that’s just life. We’ve all seen games where a keeper surely decides he’s god and the team scrape a headed corner in the last minute. The FA cup says hello. Normally the better team wins. Normally. Not always. Is that 9/10? Not so sure.
Was that under Slot? My memory isn’t as good as it used to be.
Sorry, thought you meant in general but why should who the manager is make a difference?
It’s an interesting debate. I’ve long thought our fans underestimate how much the opposition brings to games, esp in disappointing results. There are good players in every PL team. Sometimes we’re a little slow just to hold our hands up and say the other team played really well / didn’t allow us to play well.
Basically, I agree with Slot, though on this occasion MU playing well was combined with some of our guys underperforming. 9/10 is high but he’s probably added a bit to defend his players
Of course there are.
But name me a squad which matches ours for overall quality?
And a management team should have a plan in place to nullify the threat posed by the occasional superior individual(s).
In my opinion, at least.
Thinking back to 2013/14 when we had a much poorer squad (and manager) than many of the teams we were beating
The Suarez effect?
Either that or Brendan’s managerial genius. You choose.
