Arne Slot - Head Coach

“Man U are shit - we should have beaten them 10-0!”
“We trashed (sic) Spurs 6-3 last week so should have battered them again in the league cup!”

I think some wanted just to brag at work.

He’s new in the most followed league in the world and at one of the world’s biggest clubs, a vast majority of the football public is still getting to know him. Curiosity to see how he deals with different situations, I guess.

So attention and talk is expected. I think overall the footballing world is still more impressed with how he’s done so far than not. A bit of talk here and there after a few lesser performances is really nothing to worry about, it’s the nature of the game.

He actually already said a few times this season that we’ve had many tight games this season. You can argue that even if we’ve performed pretty well so far, results have been even better than performances.

I have no issues so far, neither with Slot and neither with the perception (whatever it is at a given moment) about him.

or to themselves

I don’t think people are thinking he isn’t doing well, just a few of us feel that he made mistakes in the Man U and Tottenham games with substitutions, starting line ups and what feels like over playing some players.

I’m sorry but I think some of you just want to be right.

And as I’ve said it’s all a bit tiresome. We’ve had the “he hates these players”, he won’t do this or do that.

We are judging a lot of this based on Klopp and the way Klopp set up. Maybe he will have to learn the hard way. Maybe he knows exactly where the players are fitness wise who knows.

Nobody knows 100%, but he knows where they are physically much more than us, that’s for sure.

We’re amateurs in the unknown, exchanging opinions. Makes us overprotective. A team would realistically get nowhere if we would be leading a team with such radical rotations. From “full strength” here to “play the kids” there.

Slot said today that the team has actually gone up physically recently, whereas for some it seemed in the last few games like we’re tired.

Of course, stats don’t tell the full story, there is also mental fatigue and other aspects (not to forget the many football aspects).

If our pre-season was quality, then mid-season is definitely way too early to be tired. I don’t think we are at all. We’ll see how we are progressively, as we enter the decisive months.

Other than that, football is also a game of mistakes, on all levels, on every day basis.

Forums are for discussing whatever certain people want. If that’s tiresome for some, then the best might be to ignore a certain topic.

It’s also a rudimentary fallacy that you are proven right in your disagreement with the decisions of the manager because the manager didn’t get the outcome he wanted.

I have never said he hates players, just that I feel sometimes he needs to save some of our players legs.

I have had nothing but praise for Arne.

But in the last 2 games, Trent needed replacing as he was having a bad game and the same goes for Mo against Tottenham.
That is the main issue and against Man U, he didn’t seem to change anything to help Trent against 2 players.

No one is perfect and I am sure in hindsight Arne may have made a different decision or tweak of tactics, also this is a discussion board and I don’t see anyone having a go at Arne.

I don’t think that part of his comment was aimed at you, he was speaking about comments being made, particularly on this forum, more generally.

And I was saying that I have never said that

Fantastic so far.

But what’s wrong with starting Endo to give Ryan or Alexis a rest, to give protection to Trent so that he can bomb forward.

What’s wrong with starting Elliott once in a while especially if we lack directness.

Maybe and hopefully this is just for his first season but it seems for important games he prefers a small circle of starters.

For now I guess he’s looking for consistency but in the long term it will make players unhappy.

I don’t mind him not starting them, but bring them on when the game is in the balance, either to score goals or to shut up shop i,e when 2 - 1 at Man U.

Otherwise you can’t fault him and hopefully the take away from today’s game is to trust the whole squad.

Yeah that’s just rotation for rotation sakes. He ultimately knows what the players look like and their health charts.

I personally would do some bits differently but then my team would also probably be scrapping relegation as would many of us on here.

Ultimately it’s where we end up. After all we are the only club in the CL that can rest players this week. And we don’t particularly look shattered for it.

This is off the back of what I would say looked like the hardest bunch of fixtures

Not mine.

My team would have won every game with Darwin and Mo scoring 100 goals each and Alisson and Kelleher having 150% clean sheets

You know you can’t reset the game if you are losing right?

Bluntly, he isn’t as good. Lovely lad and all but we need points on the board.

Come now… 150% clean sheets and Darwin scoring 100 goals seems plausible but Mo?

Pft mine would have Alisson and Kelleher scoring 150 and Mo & Darwin having complete shut outs along with 75 assists each
