Arne Slot - Head Coach

That depends on how we are defining not being good enough. I think @WeeJoe 's points are relevant here, and fit Arne’s few comments on the situation.

Arne made the point earlier this year that one reason Chiesa was seeing less game time/ not on the bench was because he was not training as much with the rest of the squad. He has a view on how he wants the team to play. Much of it depends on the team’s ability to work together, and if he isn’t training enough with the rest of the team it is unlikely he will have picked up the understanding to do that.

What’s Arne doing in Ibiza, shouldn’t he be on the training pitch at Axa Centre, the season hasn’t finished yet.

I suggest we have a whip round to send Maria down there to sort them out.

This is a good point.
He is the nr. 1 player I would want to sell (because he is far from good enough, but at the same time, has certain types of attributes that often gives at least some ok fee). However, I don’t think we would sell him for peanuts. But we should, I hope, be willing to sell him for a major loss. No way on earth are we getting close to 64 mil pounds for him. 30-40 mil is maybe a good price for Nunez; but I doubt we get as much as 40 (because that is a high fee). But if we get 40, if hope it’s a sale. I cannot imagine getting more.

Sometimes players don’t work out and you pay too much for a player you have very high hopes for. Nunez is such a player. Better to sell while we can still get a decent fee. We haven’t spent much lately, so ought to afford the loss and still be able to fork out 65 mil for a replacement, i would assume.

Anyway, this is just my opinion.

If I understand correctly, the Slots have an apartment in Ibiza. The family is there regularly.

Assume because they have a over a week break they will get a few days away and then return on Thursday and then do the proper match preparation for the final two games.

I didn’t even know Ibiza was a real place beyond awful Paul Oakenfold CDs.

He’s there to meet with Big George to go through the target list for summer.

It was probably lovely before it all went Pete Tong.

Eddie Nketia was something like 30m last summer (iirc). I think in today’s market 40m should be the minimum we are looking for, I expect at least 50.

1.5m per premier league goal. At that rate 40m is almost exactly the going rate for a player of Darwin’s Prem record.

Is that COG from eons ago?

I think 50 is too high for him, personally. When we bought him for 64, a very high price, it was because we assumed/took a chance that he would bloom into a fantastic striker. He did not and I fear we won’t get rid of him if we insist on 50. And if we keep him, his value is likely to trend downwards and we have less money to reinvest.

Imo, we should not forget how great difference it is between 40 and 50 mil sterling. 10 mil sterling is a lot of money. Who would pay 50 for Nunez ? Seems insane to buy him for that unless you manage to sell him to to some Gulf State’s personal sportswashing project. No European continental club would buy him for so much, so would have to be a rich Prem club or some Saudi club if so.
