Just saw the penalty, stonewall pen. The reason it looks unusual is that defenders are normally more cautious about throwing their head in on a 50/50 when the attacker is going nowhere.
Could he a side-effect of being allowed to get away with whatever they want on set-pieces all season has led Saliba to forget he can’t always assault people. Could also be a sign of the pressure the players are feeling trying to keep up with us, Saliba was in panic mode.
I have no idea how it’s even remotely contentious. Hearing some of the shit pundits say it’s harsh/ never a pen/ blah blah blah
It wasn’t a coming together, saliba tried to play the ball, Pedro beat him to the ball, and saliba fouled Pedro. In my opinion it’s very similar to a goalkeeper coming for a punch, missing the ball, and hitting the attacker. That’s a pen every day. Fucking delusional twats
And, not that I can explain this, Newcastle and Arsenal absolutely hate each other. They’ll be wild challenges flying in all over the place. They’ll leg each other senseless.
My favourite Arteta-ism recently was the one recently about how we’d drop points because no team is perfect, while forgetting that they would have be be perfect to catch us.
It is an interesting switch. Perhaps injuries have prompted a rethink to minimize their work load, or its to help them stay competitive for the whole season?
I dont see Slot doing the same, from what i’ve seen his approach is very much on creating opportunies from which to score goals through open play.
This is only even a debate because Arsenal fans are fucking deluded. I’ve never really had any antagonistic feelings towards their club or fans, but fuck me… they’ve got the whiniest fanbase, beaten only by City per capita.
It’s funny how they hated AFTV for making them look daft, but really, they do a fine job of it themselves.
“Coming together” is a meaningless phrase. It simply means “I have an emotional reason to not want to see that given as a foul that I cannot articulate using words in a cogent argument so I will fall back on this nonsense phrase as a crutch to appear like I have an reasonable justification for my biased position”.
Two players competing for a ball where one gets there and the other doesn’t and clatters the player. That is the very definition of a foul, not a “coming together”. This was not two players jumping for a header and there being incidental contact, which is what some people seemingly want to portray it as.
Regarding the penalty, wasn’t it Joao Pedro, who gave away a penalty in a similar fashion a week or so ago, where he went to play the ball about 2 foot off the ground and the opposing player nicked it before him and he caught their foot?
This one is no different but happened with the head, which is rare.
