Ballon d'Or and other individual awards

It’s probably Emi Martinez. If all goalkeepers have one thing they excel at, his is PR.

Salah only in 4th place! The whole thing is a sham.

Total joke the whole show now you understand why Salah didn’t bother attending without giving an explanation as he knows he hasn’t got an earthly of winning the bullion d’or.

I was reading something the other day from “an influencer” sharing screen shots of messages sent to him by Dembele’s PR team trying to contract him to push the narrative of Dembele’s claim for this award.

This award used to be a lot more fun and interesting when it didn’t matter so much.

Haaland had a very sub-par season after his dreadful injury, so his 26 place is ok. He needed the summer to get back to his best.
But my eye brows rose slightly when I saw that Viktor Gyökeres was at a 15th place.
But I suppose he was fantastic at Sporting last season, when I think about it (after all based on last season). I didn’t really watch Sporting, so should probably not have commented.

Marseille beat PSG by the way :joy:

After they missed out on this shit.

Salah has been the best player in the best league for years now. He should win a Ballon d’Or.

It’s all irrelevant nonsense.

Ignore!

The fact Messi got it in a year when we won the CL and had that domestic season in 2018-19 was a joke.

I didn’t have much time for it before but that was when I totally zoned out.

An excellent piece from TIA on why Mo has been consistently snubbed when it comes to the Ballon d’Or.

Yamal got 9 league goals and finished 2nd in the voting. :joy:

A very silly award. Bought and paid for by players clubs and agents.

This is essential reading, as it assists in understanding the subtle biases suffered by Mo Salah.

No player is fouled, manhandled and kicked than Salah in the PL. Yet the likes of Grealish etc earn so many more free kicks. No PL player has matched his impact since he joined Liverpool.
Van Djik, Allison, Robertson, Mane, Firmino are much, much more than bit part players in this team. But Salah is central. In a league where corruption and ineptitude cheated him and his team out of more prizes, he has been a beacon.

He is among the best, the very elite of PL players of all time. Of course I’m biased when I say he is top three. Gerrard and Salah are Liverpool players. But the elite of footballers in different eras.
Shearer, Kane, Henry, Rooney et al are contributers to their teams and to football.
Salah is above all of them.

In time, his contribution will be understood and respected.

When did this award become so important?
Its fixed so badly that no Premier league player is winning it and hasnt since 2008.
Mo was the most consistant player in Europe last season yet comes 4th.
Basically unless you were Ronaldo or Messi = or played in a CL winning team you have no chance of winning it. Dembele was pants until Xmas last year so has won it based on 6 months…and as soon as PSG won CL it was his.

Mo isnt winning it this season even if LFC win everthing - they would still give it to Yamal as he is the new flavour of the month.

POintless fixed award.

Was looking to see where Trent finished, only to realise 10mins later he wasn’t even nominated. Probably tells you how much I care about this bull crap, why is it even still a thing?

Because this is the framing through which most kids consume football. They don’t watch it. They consume content about why their preferred player is better than some other player other players say is better. And this award is their validation
