Gravenberch has really grabbed hold of his chance this season. I won’t use the phrase ‘most improved player’ because that’s unfair given his bit part role last season. However, in terms of importance to the team he has gone from squad member at a thought to one of the first names on the team sheet.
The latest list is like one of those I think my mum could name half of and she doesn’t watch football.
Also what did Haaland do? Like there is literally no reason for him to be included this time out.
Looking at this list, and being biased, Salah and VVD deserve it most for me. VVD won’t get it as a CB, so that only leaves Salah. But Mbappé has scored the most of goals in his league and in Europe. Most importantly, he’s French, so that’s the end of any hope for Mo.
The RM cunt will win this hand down. Another trophy for a Real Madrid player, as usual. No wonder they all want to go there.
The list feels a bit underwhelming. Lots on there that feel like nearly greats - maybe they are greats or will inherit that status after they finish but I cannot see it personally. Even Mbappa does not quite have the aurar of past heavy weights like Ronaldo, Messi or Zidane.
I get you, but 44 goals last season isn’t top be scoffed at. Neither Salah’s 34.
Here’s the thing though, and why I think that beyond any biaseness in favour of LFC, Mo should get the award:
Mbappé assists: 5
Salah assists: 23
I rest my case.
I agree - Salah and VVD are strong candidates and that Salah was the better all round player compared to Mbappa over the course of the season just gone.
give it to McTominay,
just to annoy Man U fans
Dembele probably deserves it for the PSG stuff alone.
You are right, I’d forgotten about him. 35 goals and 16 assists (albeit 24 of them in a pub team’s league compared to the PL). He’s French, so has a chance as well.
I take all this Ballon d’or business with a pinch of salt, when you see a player like McTominay being nominated don’t get me wrong he is a good player but leaving out Gravenbirch from the list is ridiculous. Anyway all the PSG team will take all the honours including the manager award (Enrique deservedly imo).
Raphina.
