I would not like him to buy LFC. In recent years he seems to have gone off the deep end.
Still, the line for me is a human rights abusing nation state.
From the perspective of FSG, they are mostly old men now. Their options are narrowing - bequeath your assets when you die, or, if you want to cash in, sell up.
At that point, to whom? John Henry knows that a Middle East oil state would cause so much uproar it would be a non-starter, most likely. So what about a private individual who has the money, and then some? Could be a dream ticket for Henry and FSG, if they are looking for a sale.
Again, I stress I don’t want it as the fella is a whack job who is, in my view, causing a lot of damage across the world right now by sticking his nose into politics.
But the line, for me, is a dodgy nation state.
Yep, I read that article, and his influence is akin to a nation state. It’s ridiculous and we are in new territory with an oligarch.
I don’t want him anywhere near LFC, and if it got legs - I think his dad is full of it - I think there would be protests.
It has a father…thats the fascinating part of these news for me…
So often there’s a rich father in the background who gives his boy an opal mine or a skyscraper to play with. It’s so heartwarming, but doesn’t take away from the fact that the son pulled himself up by his bootstraps and is a completely self made man.
As Simon said, Musk can go and do one!
It’s kind of interesting how this has been blown out of proportion.
The story originated in the Sunday Sport, which is basically The Onion with tits. Someone asked Musk’s father if Elon would want to buy Liverpool and he said he would because of some sort of family connection. I mean Musk Snr shags his own daughter, so this is clearly how his logic works.
Elon Musk is probably loving it as he is a narcissist who loves being at the centre of attention, and on this occasion he hasn’t even had to go to the trouble of spouting bollocks on Twitter.
I’m sure that he will lose interest the second that he discovers that football involves physical exercise and that Liverpool isn’t on the Moon.
There are some on here who wish it was.
Good article, by Dominic King.
I’ve been catching up with a few podcasts lately and I was listen to the one Rory Stewart does this morning. He had this interesting bit about Musk, in which he said that those that know him closely seem to think that his personality changed radically around the same time that one of his children came out as transgender.
It sounds a bit like Graham Linehan, who I used to follow on Twitter, and he seemed to have what I would basically describe as a mental breakdown after what was essentially just someone criticising him for a crap joke about transgender people. I suppose the difference with Musk is that he has the money to pretty much carry on with increasingly disturbing behaviour without bankrupting himself.
People need brakes in one form or another. Musk has none
I’m curious as to what AI thinks our shirt sleeve sponsors are.
Not sure, but the Nike stripe will be turned into an ‘X’ for sure :0)
Kidvelo - it’s a cycle rickshaw service using underprivileged orphans to ferry billionaires between banquets.
Same for me. Wealthy club owners with a stinking individual record have been galore in football history, since almost the start of it. Now, Musk would drive it at another level of course. But it’s not the same than dodgy nation states buying practicing sports washing.
Unless Musk already arrives at the point where he’ll have to practice it too? He has more wealth than some countries after all.
“In fact, he is richer than the economic output of over 140 nations including Pakistan, New Zealand and Kuwait when his net worth reached $400 billion.”
Technically I think all this is saying is that his assets are worth more than a single year’s GDP of those countries, not that he’s wealthier than them.
Yes, but more than 140 countries?
Musk is spearheading oligarchy to new heights, if that’s the appropriate way to put it.
The money and the influence is now on a scale we’ve not seen before, and he is well on track to be the world’s first trillionaire.
