Similar to last summer, where we played ball with Crystal Palace, allowing them time to find a defender, before letting Guehi go. End result, Palace owner nixes transfer, Guehi stays at Palace, and we were left short in an area that we needed cover.

On the bench for PSG tonight in the Super Cup so clearly nothing immediately imminent.
Just got to hope none of theirs pick up a serious injury which makes them reconsider his value to them for the season ahead.

Both our targets in PSG including Barcola did not play at all tonight so there might be some considerations for the possible movements.

Nasser Al-Khelaïfi responds to the rumors surrounding Bradley Barcola in an interview with Canal+:

Maybe if we keep pestering them long enough, they’ll give us Barcola for free just to get us off their backs.
From what I heard today, the Barcola deal looks like it will happen soon, but a second winger will presumably only arrive if Gakpo leaves. The Mbaye deal is turning out to be too expensive; PSG wants to make up the price difference there for the discount they’re giving on Barcola. And a combined total of 200 million for the two of them is too steep for us. (Source: F.R. YouTube video) (Mbaye is still on the list, but they are looking for alternatives.)

By the way, that’s 200m Euro, which is roughly £170m.
So it seems at least the combined valuation is coming down from what was said about them individually. I think it was €170m for Barcola and €50m or so for Mbaye.

It would be crazy to spend that amount on Barcola.. .
I mean… £130m for Barcola and £40m for Mbaye is kind of in line with what they’ve said they want individually for each player, so I don’t think it’s an insurmountable gap.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we shake hands on a package deal of £150m for both players.

This is exactly what I thought as well, 150m for both. I think it sounds doable. We might not get another Friday night revelation, but reading the tea leaves.. the quotes from the PSG president, both staying on the bench and largely in the background during the celebration.. I’ve got a good feeling about this.

I think it was first said Leverkusen had made a €35-40m bid and negotiations between the clubs were going along nicely - but then they pulled out because Liverpool got involved. And later I saw it was because of the money PSG wanted.
So who knows.
