I think actions we take do impact the prices we end up being quoted in the future. Certain clubs are known as being mugs and it affects the prices we get quoted in the future. Certainly if I know someone spends frivolously I’m not going to give him a decent price.
Fuck this transfer honestly. I’m not even bothered who we sign anymore.
We’e not going to win the league anyway, so who cares
Ive said in terms of quality this is worst squad depth since Rodgers time here and he bought a ton of crap with the Suarez money.
We were 4 or 5 short before we lost Salah, Robbo and Konate.
Window has been a disaster so far.
To be honest, Barcola is much better than F Torres.
So 100mil vs his 50mil is not soooo bad.
To be honest I think it´s a pretty poor first team as well. Lacks quality and the players don´t fit together well. The two stars we´d expect, Wirtz and Isak, have a lot to do to convince (I think they will though).
However, it´s in such a position that 2 good signings can really make a big difference. Nobody in this league has a great team. If we just get a very good wide player and a midfielder or even a right back, we can really be a lot more confident.
Torres was 50m euro. PSG were quoting 170m euro.
I don’t know who Bailey is, but I’m taking all the positive news I can get.
Let’s gooooo!
Yeah but no way we pay 170mil euro
Didn´t realise it was euros reported for Torres too, fair point.
Heard he’s irish
Yes, the fee Barca got for Torres doesn’t look that good from a PL point of view, where the market is very inflated compared to other countries.
Barca weren’t in a good position for negotiations, several factors that helped PSG push the fee down from the €55-60m that was initially suggested. But they’re said to be happy with what they got, considering those factors.
PSG are a different financial beast.
True, and Barca have fallen quite a lot in their market power for sure.
I think in general it´s still true that you only leave Barca (and Madrid) if the club doesn´t want you, with one or two exceptions.
TBH for us I wouldn´t sign Torres, even for that fee.
If we don’t pay someone else will is what I meant - the problem with not coughing up is that you eventually risk getting (get) left behind. I agree the price is high.
Yes, I think so too. In the case of Torres it can be said Barca maybe didn’t show him the trust he would have liked. Still some limitations there financially, that seemingly affected their willingness to sort a contract extension. He was more of a nice to have for them than a must have.
He’s leaving for what looks like a similar situation, at least the coming season, but he’ll be playing for a manager who rates him very highly.
So maybe now things could start to happen with Barcola, I’ve been thinking this was the main piece PSG needed to get sorted before some dominos could start falling.
I hope we close on Barcola very soon. Sounds like the pieces are falling together with PSG’s incoming business, so they will let one or two go.
If he is the best winger we have identified, after first going for Diomande, and we hung in there with him because the alternates after that are a rung below, fair play for our tenacity. Assuming he signs, that is.
I don’t know if the 125M mentioned above was pounds or euros, and obviously nothing is official anyway. I have long suspected a deal would be done somewhere around the Wirtz-to-Isak sort of range.
If it goes through they will highlight the top end figure, with all the add ons, to show the price they extracted from us. We will prefer to communicate the lower end of the range to show that we fought tooth and nail to get as good a price as possible. ‘‘Twas ever thus.
On a personal note I’m not jaded with it, and I’m not conceding anything yet. Arsenal have to be Prem favorites given their squad and stability, but as we saw with Slot, a new man in his first season can surprise.
My expectation is better football, getting better as we go, and a comfortable CL finish, but you never know. Arsenal will miss Saliba. Man City have a new manager. Chelsea will probably be in the mix after falling off last season.
Ideally we sign two wingers, a right back and maybe a midfielder, especially if there is much outgoing there. Anything is possible.
Was Bradders on the private jet last night to Blackpool or not? Did someone in fact just hire the plane to troll us???
I agree with the better quality player but the price should be about another 20 or €30M more not €100M more.
Not sure why anyone would be comparing both players and/or circumstance…
Ferran is a central striker…
I don’t know if this is defeatist or not, but given the money in the game and given we are one of the top operators, and given the players we have seen move around in the £100-120M bracket, Barcola very much fits in that range.
We should rightly try to negotiate as good a deal as possible, and we have been, but the price gets a shoulder shrug from me. It has long since been ridiculous.
If we sign him and he does poorly, I will be much more concerned about that. And on that note, Wirtz and Isak need to show us more this season, especially the latter. I think they will, mind.
The latter was just starting to look better before the leg break. The former just ghosted through too many games for my liking
