Yeah. I think he´s decent in a few but doesn´t really excel in any role nowadays and it´s kinda why he´s not considered a big player for Barca or even starting for Spain really a lot of the time.
Very good squad player but you can see why City and Barca both passed on him ultimately
I firmly believe the price is unsustainable compared to revenues.
Sure someone else might buy for that price (probably only another PL club) but what I mean by sustainability is that spending at these levels will soon lead to financial problems. Better to let someone else do it, mess up and need a financial rescue.
We simply should not try and compete with clubs who will pay 100m for a slightly above average player like Tonali. Are we going to start 100m+ on anyone half decent? I simply can’t see this market persisting at this level for long.
No I don’t need to go to TransferMarkt. I just need to trust my eyes and memory of the games he’s played.
And I especially don’t need to go all the way back to Valencia, when he played as a winger. Because that tells me you only really googled it. That was the early part of his career.
But rather to his games and recent career, specifically with Barca, starting from 2021-22 season. And also in the Spanish NT.
And in the PSG case, they have not bought him as a winger, but as a replacement for the forward, Goncalo Gomes, recently sold to Milan.
Capitalism is what it is. Sure the football bubble will eventually burst but until it does people will try squeeze as much as possible out of it. That means staying relevant at all costs.
If only the cautionary tale was Chelsea, Man City, RM or Barca… sadly it is not.
Barcola doesn’t get to choose how much PSG want or Liverpool are willing to pay for him. For that cost the club will hope to see a return on the investment like with any transfer but he would still need to train, get up to match fitness, learn the manager’s system and settle in a new country regardless of if he came in on a free or for a record fee.
He’s also promised to fill in for Alisson Becker when he picks up his inevitable injury just after the second international break. Plus cover Maureen’s afternoon shift, in the kitchen during half term, as she has the grandkids this year.
