As the name of the Paris newspaper says « le parisien » is in my opinion the equivalent of the Echo however the size of the city of Paris there are a lot more newspapers than in Liverpool.
Le croissant means also Crescent which is the shape of the croissant.
Croissant also means growing but in a different context.

It is not like a crumpet because the croissant is full of butter ie there is a big layer of butter between two layers of pastry then it rolled and folded then rolled again umpteen times to create umpteen layers which will puff up when cooked in an oven.
