It’s not just about goals scored but he’s comfortable enough making those passes from his left foot which means that he’s going to be more unpredictable than the likes of Diaz and Gakpo who are predominantly right foot players whether they pass the ball or they shoot.

I watched a compilation and he’s scored some brilliant goals with his left foot. Strikes it really cleanly. Obviously doesn’t show the misses though!

This is one thing I am hopeful he will add - passing into the box for Isak, Wirtz and even our RW, to create chances.
Gakpo is all about cutting right and shooting, so Isak gets no service, whereas Barcola is potentially going to link up better with Wirtz and make more chances for Isak.

This recent video by the Breakdown guy demonstrates this pretty well showing that, while Gakpo by his standards is playing decently well, in terms of our overall tactics he’s not doing the stuff we need our wide players to do… which just happens to be the sort of stuff Barcola is already elite at.
Yeah I watched that video yesterday and essentially he´s talking about Barcola´s runs in behind which, added to his passing game, doesn´t sound bad does it.
Gakpo is a good player but I always called him Huntelaar on the wing. Bit tongue in cheek but the reason being, he will score and get good numbers, but the rest of your attackers will suffer a bit. He´s good at what he does but it´s one dimensional.
As you suggest, Barcola has more to his game to fit into the bigger team and attack picture.
We used to be—as a collective—more than the sum of our individual parts; a team where every cog meshed perfectly with the next, all finely tuned to one another.
Since then, we’ve turned into a hodgepodge of “top players” who merely flash their individual brilliance in occasional moments of genius. Now, it’s up to Iraola to forge this group back into a cohesive unit—a team where everyone knows what their teammates are doing and is willing to put the greater good ahead of the desire to constantly shine through individual heroics.
This process requires challenging egos, relearning and rehearsing tactics, and getting everyone in sync. It will be interesting to see how things unfold. After all, back at the very start of the Klopp era, surely none of us could have imagined what that team would eventually become.
It almost goes without saying that this takes time—and a tremendous amount of training—so that every one of the lads not only learns his new role but also works for the collective cause and understands what needs to happen on the pitch, as well as when and why.
I think the prime example of a player who is very good on his own but makes the team worse is Mbappe.

But he very useful playing out of position and still scoring and contributing to the team. We should keep him at least until January he might help us qualify for the knockouts stage in the CL and in the PL.
I can understand why many think he should stay a bit longer—if only for the stats and as a safety net—but to be fair, Gakpo is probably actually a hindrance to our development as a team. Aside from the fact that I only see half-hearted pressing attempts, he basically never tracks back. Why is that, actually? Maybe I’m a bit biased, but he usually freezes up the moment he loses the ball; so if he stays, it’ll take that much longer for us to see the team we’re apparently supposed to become. If you know what I mean.
It’s funny how players can appear so differently to people because I don’t see any of the stuff you mention. He tracks back way better than any of our attackers (and some mids). I also dispute this one-dimensional tag he has undeservedly acquired since last season. Gakpo is rapid, scores, assists, presses well, is the best shot striker and can head the ball too. How is that one-dimensional? Oh yeah, he cuts inside a lot! So what? Usually it’s because there’s no-one to cross to.
He had a crap season under Slot-ball last season, as did many others who escaped the withering putdowns and get-rid demands. I’m quite confident in saying that under Iraola, with his fast transition tactics, Cody is set for his best season at LFC on all fronts. He’s started in that vein in the WC and continued it in pre-season and against the barcodes. The guy is in his prime and that’s why City are probing to see if we are stupid enough to sell him.
I’m not calling Gakpo a failure for Liverpool. I’m just saying that if we do in fact get an upgrade in Barcola and already have a deputy in Ngumoha , Gakpo’s position in LW is probably dispensable.
He’s not good enough for Liverpool at the position that we are playing him in and neither is he good enough for us (to refuse 70m-80m) to be a 3rd choice CF.

I would debate that.
I don´t think he´s that quick or good in the air. Just reasonable. Nor is he that creative. He´s not somebody passing well into the box, putting great crosses in or cutting it back often. Even if we go by assists, he doesn´t have a particularly impressive amount compared to the significant minutes he plays. Wouldn´t say he´s lazy or anything but in an attacking sense he´s fairly one dimensional. He´s a guy who gets you a decent amount of goals, starting from the wing.
I suspect if he wasn´t at LFC you wouldn´t be wanting us to sign him, for example. He´s a solid player and you know what you will get (a solid amount of goals), but he has quite a few limitations too.
I think you make a pretty good case for buying him tbh. That’s why City and Spuds are interested too. Behind Mo he’s consistently been our most productive attacker and that included a title-winning season.
