They’ve been taking us for a ride since Alfred the Great, at least.
The problem is, there some people in the UK who think that monarchy is part of who Britain is and “it makes us proud to be British”, the Royals promote the UK abroad for Business, (ok to line most of their pockets).
Somehow, they will still be around in this country. Maybe the countries who still have Charles as head of state become a Republic and show they are now irrelevant
I think I posted this before, but one of the government departments I worked in had the Duke of Kent as a trade envoy. As far as I can tell he did a lot of good work in promoting business. However, I can remember one of my colleagues sending me a picture of her posing for a photograph with his American counterpart, who was Neil Armstrong. Literally, the guy who first stepped on the moon which, with the best will in the world, is much cooler then the Queen’s cousin.
I would have thought recent political events around the world would have disabused you of this notion. He might be much cooler to you, but you just know there will be many who prefer to worship royalty instead.
Is he still around? I liked him and his wife. They used present Wimbledon trophies together.
The Royals have their own internal rifts. Charlie is trying to evict his brother. Maybe the Windsor firm will combust at some point.
I agree @Bekloppt , Royals need to be gone now.
In my family, especially the women, my mum’s generation. They loved watching programmes on the royals and they would watch all the royal weddings:sob:.
Yes, although I don’t think he has any official positions. He used to be president of the FA as well. I think I remember his wife presenting the trophies at Wimbledon.
She was lovely, very down to earth character.
They’re German anyway aren’t they?
Let them have them.
Thats the tip of their iceburg. The Duchy pull in rent and the like all over the place.
Gwynedd CC have started pushing back against costs for public access to a beach.
Stinks
He passed on a dozen years ago. Lived to a ripe old age.
They had a revolution in 1918 and got rid of them. UK’s problem now.
I think @Maria was referring to the Duke of Kent, not Neil Armstrong.
“They had a revolution in 1918 and got rid of them. UK’s problem now.”
Why are they on here moaning about them then?
Oh.

Danish military vessel extremely recently stopped (boarded by marines almost certainly) a Chinese ship suspected of sabotaging the underwater Finnish-German cable.
Iver Huitfeld also closing in on the Chinese vessel
As well as Norwegian coastguard Bergen
Currently, this is an operation, so little in the media about this. For now a bit hush-hush. But transponders are on, so obvious what is happening.
The Chinese ship is out of Russia obviously and acting on behalf of, well, it’s rather obvious despite no “current” evidence as this just happened. Not the first time RU has used a Chinese vessel for this purpose…
Anyway, despite the suspicions of Pistorius and many, this could still be nothing (i.e accident like an anchor dragging along at the seabed or something else). Time will tell.
More on this. We won’t know the outcome of the investigation or how extensive the boarding was, before tomorro anyway, since what is happening now is still probably classified for operational reasons.

Claim to fame : the thing that he will be most remembered for , i.e. chinning that guy , who I also knew (of) , happened about 200m from my family home.
