Breaking News Thread

It’s literally what he appears to want to do according to his internet witings. Though I suppose he could have been thinking about Muslim extremists himself to an unhealthy degree (well that he did) and then had a mental breakdown and acted like in his fantasies and fears concerning others (who knows ?)

We cannot know really.

I actually wrote that before I saw @Livvy’s post.

But I don’t know if I’ve seen any official verification of the claims about the suspect anywhere, so I’m not that confident with asserting anything about who perpetrated it and what their motivations are.

It’s a fast-moving situation, I’m not sure what the benefit of people like us making a snap judgment is.

EDIT:

This made me look once again for information, and Deutsche Welle are reporting that Deutsche Presse-Agentur is reporting the same information as Der Spiegel:

There are also multiple screendhots of the alleged perpetrator’s Tweets, which disappeared very quickly after the incident.

Of course, there isn’t any guarantee that these were even the same person.

I can see the AfD and their international supporters are doubling down on their message. It’s like they had everything preprepared and don’t want to lose the initiative.

Of course they will double down. Either its extremist Islamists or its the idea of extremist islamists that makes people lose their mind. Either way, suits their discourse.

I suppose there is also a slim chance that this guy is a sleeper agent for ISIS or al qaida, but judging from his mad rants towards the German government and society, that is extremely slim indeed. He appears to me to be a psychiatric case really with ideas of being stalked, listened in to and followed, which is ironic since he worked in mental health. But maybe he is not and will get a prison sentence. Who knows. I don’t for sure.

I think there is an assumption that because an individual is educated and a working professional that they are immune to extremism and criminality, but it simply isn’t the case.

One of the men that tried to attack Glasgow Airport in 2007 was a doctor. I think he was a locum (we were contacted by the police at the time over his registration) but as far as I know, there was nothing untoward.

Oh, I don’t assume that. Doctors are sometimes struck by the greater good syndrom and sometimes, in truth, that can even be a difficult ethical conondrum. If you belive very strongly that your acts will help more people than it will hurt as an example, then it becomes moral philosophy and arguable. And then you have dehumanisation and “the other”. Ancient and tribal, Germans know that one well.
But the truth is also that many who work in the health sector are assholes, some even vile, like a person who works elsewhere. And sometimes they are doctors primarily due to status and/or family expectactions, list goes on.

But I was thinking more about the posibility of the killer being insane (being stalked and persecuted and other ideas that people who struggle with psychosis sometimes have), which would be slighty ironic given his medical field.

I know that there are legal definitions, but a random attack on innocent people are hardly the actions of a sound mind.

I checked our local Weihnachtsmarkt and I don’t think there are any further restrictions. Having said that, the police appear to have closed the border on the Autobahn from the Netherlands.

The least dislikeable of the dislikeable EPL managers. I wish him well.

Are you sure?

I always wondered if it was all just an act with Mourinho; if he was actually a nice bloke but enjoyed playing the role of the pantomime villain for the press.

Then I met a few people who knew him when he lived in London, and they confirmed that he is actually a cunt in real life.

As sure as the Cheaty Fraudy is the most dislikeable.

It’s just the choice of clubs that let Mou down.

Nah, he was a real nasty dick, and what’s worse, he started the trend of nasty, rude, arrogant, unsporting, venomous arseholes.

Agreed, he was a fucking prick from day 1 and built his teams in his own image - cheating, snide shithouses.

How is Guardiola more dislikable than Mourinho ? That does not compute. Guardiola has never gone above and beyond to be cruel or to hurt others. Mourinho does, all the time.

But of course I wish him well, he doesn’t deserve this in any form or way, but I don’t understand how anyone can manage to claim that Guardiola is a “bigger cunt” without knowing them both personally. That is just taking football rivalry way too far and forgetting that football is sports.

By the way, I would like to add, this is in no form or way any sort of attack on you; I just don’t agree and I don’t understand the thinking behind it. I am fully aware that Mourinho is a circus and brings “life”, but it’s a negatively laden circus and it is usually always about hurting someone, either a player, a manager, or a referee; and personally I don’t like such behaviour in others; at all. It might be an act, he may be entirely different if you know him, but the act, if so, still hurts others. Guardiola is arrogant and haughty like a lot of successful people, but he isn’t overly cruel, at least in public so I don’t get why he is a villain if Mourinho is not.

In any case, let us all hope that Mourinho will be okay and with his family soon.

Different matrix.
Anyway, just a personal opinion.

Yes. But primarily, let us hope the man will get out of hospital

Mourinho’s story arc is there for all to see. Translator, back up behind the scenes, got a coaching gig, began his rise. Did really well in Portugal, ran down the touchline at Man Utd when he was a young man, as Ferguson looked on. Rude, but I liked it because it was against them.

Went to Chelsea, started the special one bollocks, won lots of trophies, bumped around lots of clubs, huge clubs, and some second tier assignments like now.

Big mouth and a nasty fella in many ways. But like all of us, there are facets to the man. I also see a certain decency and humanity in him. He is neither fully hero or villain.

Anyway, whatever health issue he has, I wish him a speedy recovery.

This is the main reason why so many think that Guardiola is an absolute shithouse

I don’t “like” him either. I think his career has consisted of getting everything handed to him easily and I think he is an arrogant ass. But that’s mostly is really for me so not really that bad, I guess.
But each to his own :+1:
