That’s fine, go for it. It’s a major world event.

And meanwhile, Vance says that the US won’t intervene because it has nothing to do with them.

I’d love to punch this guy in the face. :oncoming_fist:

Well, that’s Vance. Thankfully he isn’t the Sec. of State. Rubio is and he’s offering US mediation.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio offered US mediation in the escalating conflict between Pakistan and India while speaking separately with his counterparts in both countries, according to State Department readouts.

Rubio spoke with India’s External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar in separate calls, during which he “emphasized that both sides need to identify methods to de-escalate and re-establish direct communication to avoid miscalculation,” according to the readouts.

He also spoke earlier with Pakistani army chief Asim Munir, during which he “continued to urge both parties to find ways” to de-escalate.

The secretary of state offered US help to mediate “in order to avoid future conflicts,” the readout said.

This is the first such offer of US assistance mentioned in readouts of his calls with Pakistani or Indian officials.

Wish they would adhere to that all the time.

Fortunately there’s no beachfront property to develop in Kashmir.

ie. We’re shit scared of both of them so will stick to bullying countries that can’t nuke us

I’m no military/strategic expert, do people actually clump artillery pieces to close together? It looks like a fucking movie set.

They did during the 1st WW as they were out of range of the enemy and there weren’t bombers or rockets as such. I believe these days the more mobile the artillery units the better.
Like that they are sitting ducks these days.
WW I was fucking madness.

Supposedly a trump brokered ceasefire.

Now both countries get to declare themselves the victors.

It was Marco Rubio who did all the work after what I read last night, but he is no way hell getting credit, haha.

It’s not a great thing brokering a ceasefire when both countries do not actually want an escalation and are only looking at a face saving exercise at the end of it.

Shared with me.

Indeed.

Would still think the changes in the IWT by India would stand.

But then that’s back to the general politics thread. No more breaking news thread.

Lots of smaller (meaning serious, but narrowed down to Kashmir region, which is very different from Deep Strikes) violations from both sides after Cease Fire ought to be in effect.
However, now India reports that their Operation Sindoor is not over.

I doubt the sides will be stupid enough to truly escalate in a major way outside Kashmir and think it likely we will see mostly border skirmishes the coming weeks, but since this “war” is all about Face Saving, you never know. The sides may indeed expand it again because they “feel” they have to, so they can appear to have truly won.

And Pakistan violates the ceasefire.

Both sides have in the early hours. It is a bit hen and egg. Right now, it is very difficult to prove who violated what first, with conflicting reports from two info war bubbles that both have a relatively bad relationship with unbiased facts.

But sure, they have. Perhaps they have violated it in a slightly more serious manner than India (many video clips geolocated today of Indian drone wrecks in Pakistan too), but I cannot say for sure.

An 18-month suspended sentence? That’ll learn him!

Utterly ridiculous sentence.

Seemingly in line with what the prosecution requested? I don’t know what is typical for similar sentences in France.
