Breaking News Thread

If I am right in thinking, there have been no 787 crashes before today. It’s possible that is just because it hasn’t been in service that long, but it also indicates that they are not inherently unsafe. (Obviously, air crash investigators will have to do their work after today’s incident)

I’m actually off air travel altogether, but that has more to do with me despising airports than a concern with the aircraft themselves.

The boeing 777 and Airbus 350 were probably decent enough.

But 787 , the 737s seem problematic.

You are right that this is the first crash for the 787. But the 787 hasn’t been without problems. The wiki link has the problems being encountered.

The whistleblower case rears up again.

Agree, just gotta get on with it really. Can’t be too worried given how seldom they go down and how many of them are up in the air.

I generally don’t pay attention the jet (model/make) I’m flying on. I do tend to pick the bigger airlines though for a few extra quid.

My sister in law was on board this jet a few years ago - came away unscathed

Almost 14 years since it first flew its first commercial pax.
Almost 1200 Dreamliners in service and another 1000+ on order.
Carried more than 1 billion pax to date.

I hadn’t realised that it had been around that long. I haven’t made a long distance flight for a long time, so I tend not to notice these things.

It’s ok. We can’t keep track of everything.
I do follow aeronautical and space matters for decades because my first dozen working years were spent in the aviation sector. Visited many air museums and attended a number of airshows.

Sorry I have watched this video from the Air India CEO on the crash but there is suspicion that this looks like an AI generated video and I can see why, I went to watch the video and I realize the bloody fingers did not move a single time for the whole 2 minutes. It is disrespectful if the CEO has to address the incident with an AI generated video.

ADD: Still trying to find this video on official Air India channels or was this video generated by 3rd parties…no matter what or who, I don’t know what to make of this AI video…

Ok looks like its official…

What would you do?
I’d walk away as fast as I could, as I can not run, just get the … away to safety.

I don’t know exactly, try to help if possible, but I’d definitely not think of fucking filming it

There is something strange going on. It’s been reported now for days that there is peculiar heavy tanker movement in the US. But now they are all off and it is such a high number and it is not telegraphed through the media (this usually just happens when you are preparing for war).

There isn’t any enormous exercise coming up, I think

If I was to simply guess, then US is considering joining Israel to finish off Iran.

Not very important really, but maybe someone is interested.

Well it was static, and that definitely looked like a fire. I’m assuming that they will declare it to be a resounding success.

Yeah, the Rapid Unscheduled Immolation of Starship36 on the static test stand was a roaring & burning success.
