Sigh, good night

All for vanity. This is what the world has come to. The end of the world, for the vanity of a few men with small penises.

The points are plausible, and practical. Trump, and his Arab cronies wouldn’t have bothered to have second thought, but it’s damn alarming that European leadership didn’t either.

Normally this would be front page news, but these are different times

Axel Springer is buying the Telegraph. This is the German news group that publishes Bild and Die Welt:

Axel Springer buys Telegraph in £575mn deal Client Challenge

Given what a ridiculous comic the Telegraph has become, this may actually be a good move for them. Can’t say I would ever trust anything in the Springer press at face value.

I’ve just seen some of the pictures from the Glasgow City Centre fire:

It seems to have taken out everything on that side of Union Street from the station entrance down to Gordon Street. There are some lovely old buildings there.

Unconfirmed reports are that there was an explosion in the vape shop. I don’t think this is the first time this has happened. A lot of poorly manufactured lithium batteries is going to be a fire risk.

It makes sense for the owner of a bunch of appalling rags to buy another appalling rag.

I’m old enough to remember when the Telegraph, despite its obvious Tory leanings, was a respected news source.

It was one of the ones that I used to read at work. They split their reporting and opinion so it was a reasonable source for news and centre-right opinion. I think it must have changed in the early 2010s. When Peter Oborne walked out on them it was obvious that it was being used to ship propaganda.

I also liked their film-reviewer, Robbie Collin, (actually still do). I bumped into him at a film festival and he was very friendly - an actual fan of films and cinema rather than a failed screenwriter.

It may have been earlier. I remember the Telegraph being criticised for taking money to write puff pieces for China but they were positioned as opinion pieces I think this was before 2010?

Here’s a surprise

It’s really sad. Those buildings were some of the first views of Glasgow I ever got. Beautiful sights they were.
