I don’t suppose this is a surprise to anyone, but a timely reminder to those dumb fucks who say, “I want my country back”…

@Flobs, and others who live in France :france:, what’s your opinion about the recent local government election.

Not as bad as it could/should have been.
The far right made some advances though not as big as they would have liked. LR (republican) kept their majority of Mayors.
The left kept their big towns.
The media circus is still trying to make a big hoohaa over the position of the extreme left LFI and socialistes PS.
All this is being overshadowed by the death of Lionel Jospin, ancient Prime Minister under Chirac, who lost a Presidential.
I haven’t looked at the political maps yet. There’s a lack of noise in the media and from political parties so noone considers anyone ‘won’. What is clear is the country is moving to the right just not as fast as portrayed.

I’m not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but it is pretty shocking:

The Hatzola is a Jewish charity ambulance service run for the benefit of everyone living in that part of London as a complimentary service to the NHS (think of it as a similar idea to the St John’s Ambulance, which anyone who has attended a football match in the UK will be familiar with).

It appears that it was a firebombing solely because it was a Jewish charity. The vehicles were parked outside the synagogue at the time.

That bit I never knew. I’ve only heard about them in passing so never knew a lot and thought they were seperate to the NHS, never knew they acted as a complimentry service to the NHS.

Either way, still a shit act

There are a lot of charity organisations that work that way. For example the RNLI is charitably funded and volunteer based, but they are an integral part of the emergency services. Also, the hospices which provide end of life care are usually third sector organisations.

This just looks like a straight hate crime: attacking someone completely randomly because of their perceived ethnicity.

I guess this has nothing whatsoever to do with the complete hollowing-out of the US’ civil aviation infrastructure?

Funny, you would say that

Videos of the arson (imo, a classic terror attack to strike the very softest targets and sow fear in a population segment and possibly alter government policy in the future due to the threat of repeat attacks and worse (and not just arson).

Suspicious, this may actually belong in the Iran War thread, but it might not. Since my suspicions are speculative, I post it here

Scott Mills has been sacked by the BBC:

“Personal Conduct” but no reasoning, and quite fast too.

I’m wondering whether the lack of info means a police involvement?

This is a bit strange.

For a BBC star, police involvement would often get leaked to ITV, C4 and the print vultures who all love to take a dig at BBC any chance they get, yet none of them have said Bo about it.

He was last on air on the 24th March. That’s less than a week ago. Even for serious misconduct that is a very fast exit: disciplinary hearings, lawyers etc.

There must be an evidential video of whatever it relates to…

It sounds like £5000 per punter. There are lots of pseudo-legal firms like this who will offer assistance with visa regulations for considerable amounts of money, when mostly the process is free. (I recently had to look into updating my residence ID card in Germany and there umpteen firms offering to do the work for anything up to €1000 to fill out a form that costs nothing to submit.)

The scam with false credentials in the UK used to be with IT workers. A recruitment firm would come up with a fake CV and qualifications and line up a potential job in the UK - usually in the public sector because of compulsory tendering. The people would arrive, last a month at most because they were completely useless, and then have a 3 year visa to do what they want with. I think they tightened up on that so that visas need to be sponsored, but I’m sure it was still abused.
