I find it impossible to understand how someone can go down this road. How do you arrive at the point where you start to believe that this a good idea?

Lots of information on the perpetrator now. The bit about converting to Islam seems to be less relevant than initially thought. He has been in and out of psychiatric care, doesn’t know a lot about Islam, and while possibly motivated by Wahhabist type ideology, it looks like he is mainly someone who has struggled a lot and went in and out of psychiatric care. In 2020 he was for instance barred from visiting his parents after threatening to murder his father.

Sounds like the old story of insufficiently funding psychiatric care with the result that far too many unstable people are unsupervised on the street to save money. Terrorism claims make much more sense wrt to a group acting together on basis of ideology, not marginalised lone perpetrators of death, suffering and destruction.

Blanks can be fatal. Questions will need to be asked of the production’s firearms or safety officer.

Tragic story, there will be people on the set with some serious questions to answer although I doubt Baldwin will be one of them. The prop department and firearms specialists should be inspecting these weapons before their use every time.

This is huge. No formal defence agreement has ever existed so Biden coming out and confirming it is like a giant game of chicken with China. Its not as simple as before, where China would calm things down. Xi Jinping built his credibility as a strongman so backing down will make him lose face.

I would be angry if it’s the same as Brandon Lee where a prop gun had previously been used to fire a live round. Surely you would have a live round gun and a prop gun completely separate and not use the same one in a multi million dollar production?
As for the death being caused by the gas discharge, that seems pretty unlikely as two people were injured. You need to be at a pretty close distance for the expelled gases to be fatal don’t you?
It seems like Baldwin is in the clear, but this is something that will play on his mind for the rest of his life sadly.

I think it’s likely someone is going to be in shit for this. This film was already subject to strikes and walk outs from the production staff due to working conditions, and safety practices not being followed was allegedly one of the concerns raised. Accidents are accidents, but when they occur because of negligence, as appears to be the case here, then someone pays for that.
