As you may know, I am not a ‘native’ of Germany; rather, my parents, who are originally from Sri Lanka (they have been living in Germany since 1985), are Tamils. I myself was born in Germany and grew up there too. I feel and see myself as German. And this post is about players who grew up in Germany but whose families come from another country and who therefore have a choice between two or three different nations. I believe that when a player chooses to play for the German national team, they should really make that decision from the heart and not for career reasons. A national team must not be a ‘career vehicle’.

I remember Karius having arguably his best game for us being a home league game against Tottenham in that 17/18 season (ended 2-2, I think). When he had a good run in the team around spring.
