Caoimhin KELLEHER: 2024/25

I’ve always said he’s a fine backup, I always baulked at the idea of him being Alisson’s successor. His mistakes are/have been ignored or glossed over his entire career.

If Digne scores, games goes to 1-1, when Kelleher misjudges the cross then there might not be so much talk him going to be a starter at Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich :joy:

Seeing Jaros doesn’t have his own thread (where’s that slacker @Nikola ? ), where does the young Czech keeper fit into the equation?

Does he stay as third choice next season, assuming we sell Kelleher, or head out on loan?

I do agree with you. And probably so does the club. They want someone more physically built to handle the crosses which is one area where Kelleher isn’t that good.

Its just that the other clubs are in much more dire need of quality keepers and that’s where he does come in as a good option. He’s off that age where his stock is at his highest.

Ederson isn’t really as good a stopper as Kelleher is. You see this happening now when teams are attacking city more. Raya’s positioning is off quite a bit too. Alisson is Alisson. But Kelleher deserves his chance at a top club. Mid table clubs aren’t his ceiling anymore.

But as of now , on his current form. He’s the second best keeper in the league. And that’s including Alisson who’s injured.

and if my auntie had balls, she’d be my uncle. But she doesn’t so she remains my auntie.

I think he’s spent enough time on loan already. If he does need to go on loan , I hope it’s to a midtable club where he’s guaranteed minutes.

Depending on the Alisson situation where we might look to cash in (especially with his injury history) , Jaros might well be the #2.

I’m not in favour of letting Alisson go especially when the other guy still has to get acclimitized.

Ideally we keep Alisson for the next season as the #1 allowing Giorgio the time needed to get comfortable. Makes sense to have Jaros around in the squad and give him the league Cup matches.

Frankly, at the age of 33, I don’t think there would be much to cash in on. Probably easier to have him play an Adrian-type role on the commensurate wages, especially if he has an interest in coaching post-playing. If he thinks he’s too good for that, then best of luck to him elsewhere.

I’m a little bit sceptical about Kelleher though, because it’s now been two seasons (or has it been more) where there were rumours about him heading out, but we’ve still ended up with him as a useful player instead of a cash cow. I vaguely recall seeing a stat where he actually outperformed Alisson last season (https://www.thisisanfield.com/2024/03/caoimhin-kelleher-is-outperforming-alisson-in-crucial-stat-this-season/).

There is also https://www.squawka.com/en/features/caoimhin-kelleher-compared-alisson-liverpool-premier-league-goalkeepers/ where he compares favourably, not that it would tell the whole story.

I think it’s really quite hard to tell because unless Alisson is out for an extended period of time, the sample is really rather small for him. He has performed decently at worst during this time though, so the question is whether any club would be willing to stump up the money.

We get 30m for him and his wages off the wagebill. He’s gone.

We have a lot of goalkeeping experts for which I am very grateful… in fact we have a lot of experts in all sorts of fields.

Kelleher has been fantastic, I know he wants to leave so hopefully we get a club interested and prepared to pay what he is worth.

If we’re playing the role of Kelleher’s agent, imagining where he could be starting, it’s interesting that it’s pretty far from the level of interest and offers that have arrived so far.

From ideas like Bayern or Real to getting offers like £8m from Forest…

As he’s nearing the end of his contract, I guess we’ll find out soon.

Always a possibility that things change with time, but I do think he will prefer to try a new challenge and where he will be viewed as first choice on paper.

We’ll see if we can at least negotiate a clause for the future or something, but our position isn’t at it’s peak anymore, considering how much he has left.

It’s not all about that though, we can be pretty happy with what we got and still are getting from him on the pitch almost whenever needed.

Allison is also older, which should be considered, how good might Kelleher be by the time he hits 30?

Are we still trying to trigger @Sweeting?

Even the BBC’s getting in on the act.

Aye, nothing anyone could do there. Much as the international breaks are getting on my nerves, that was just a better team finding a little groove and piling on a few goals.

Kelleher is a very good goalie and he looks destined to carve out a good career for himself. He has done everything asked of him at Liverpool, and even exceeded expectations, but he is behind the best in the world.

Adding Mamardashvili makes it harder again for Kelleher, and I expect him to move on in summer, and if he does, it will be with his head held high and the best wishes of all good reds.

He is at least the level of a mid team Premier League number one, and he may even prove to be top class. You back your own and there’s only a small handful of Premier League goalies who I think are better.

Good luck to Kelleher.
