Chelsea would be a far better team with a better goalie so I hope they don’t work that out any time soon.
Torn on this would love kelleher to stay to stay but appreciate he wants to be #1 at a top club, preferably not Chelsea.
The guy is a class act and deserves to get his wish,as it is clear he was not part of our plan,by buying the guy with a name longer than Anfield.
Not sure of the reasoning, but surely not the call of a lot on here.
Not even sure if mama is better than Kelleher
When I saw 3 replies I was going cry
Todays burning question:
Is @Sweeting convinced?
Always been convinced he was a good backup, do not want him to be Alisson’s successor.
Fair enough.
But hasn’t his recent excellent form altered your mind in the slightest? He has shown that he can play well for an extended period now.
Still been fundamental issues that I have with his performances though and my big one has always been his tendency to push the ball back into trouble rather than away/around the post. He’s done that multiple times in this run but thankfully we haven’t been punished for it.
Sweetie is a hard task master
He raises an interesting point, though.
If, with all due respect, some bloke on the internet can spot this fundamental fault with Kelleher’s technique, we must assume that our coaches have also done so.
So why is the player still doing it? Surely it’s an ingrained habit now (he’s just turned 26, after all, and is no longer a youngster) and this trait is probably here to stay.
He’s our resident expert on tactics, youth development and quadratic algorithms.
Yup. I know we can give him some grace on the Southampton pen but that was a perfect example. Too many times back into danger.
IMO that’s why Ali is so damn good. You get one shot at him. It’s either caught or parried far away from the danger zone allowing the team and himself to get into position
I do accept this. Pretty sure that Kelleher would have pushed the ball away if he had a chance.
The standard is most fierce, and the margins most harsh, at the very top.
Kelleher is an excellent goalkeeper. He has done all that has been asked of him, and more besides. He has done so well that many fans are feeling twinges of regret at how it might be shaping up for next season, if Kelleher is the odd man out and is sold.
Full credit to that lad. I would be happy if he were the next in line to replace Alisson, and he has been handling the interim job to cover injury with aplomb. But it does not look like that is the plan.
If Mamardashvili has been adjudged to be the better keeper, and he is going to be our number one in a post-Alisson world, who am I to complain? Bring it on.
If and when it happens, and Kelleher is sold, he will move on with nothing but best wishes and full respect from every good red. We will all be watching how his career unfolds with great interest.
Speaking of goalkeepers, I have an inkling that we might see massive upheaval in this department in the summer and BOTH Alisson and Kelleher will be sold. Alisson for the Saudi dough, top up his pension before going back to play his time out in Brazil, and we will get a decent transfer fee. And Kelleher to another Prem side, probably for a bit less than we expect, but with a sell on in there too.
It might be too much upheaval, but I would not be completely surprised if Slot started the 2025-26 season with Mamardashvili as his number one, and Jaros the number two.
Interesting.
I have a feeling that the club know what Ali wants to do (they appear to be on particularly good terms with him) and it may well be that he wants to move, either to the Middle East for the money or back to Brazil for his family.
With Kelleher, I am certain that we would accept a decent offer (no idea how much the club considers “decent” to be), and Kelleher himself would be happy to move on and be a guaranteed number one elsewhere, with the proviso that the club is big enough. I get the impression that Caoimhin would rather be backup here than starter at a mid-table club, for instance.
I haven’t been watching Valencia, so I have no idea how Mamardashvili is doing. But if the club are happy to start next season with him and Jaros as one and two, with Davies as backup, then I would place my trust in the coaches’ decision.
After all, I think they deserve it.
I think you are right and the way it is shaping up we could see massive upheaval all over the field even if we are league champions.
If we allow Salah, Trent and van Dijk to leave then also let Alisson go you can see a complete revamp of the squad coming in.
I don’t think its that far-fetched either. We have a new sporting director, new manager and an aging (albeit still incredibly good) squad. They probably relish the chance to build the next Liverpool squad.
In addition to the goalkeeper signing we know about, we might see Kerkez, Bade, Frimpong, Zubimendi, Adeyemi and David in a Liverpool shirt in the not too distant future.
It’s Thanksgiving here, and I’m probably going mad
