Caoimhin KELLEHER: 2024/25

I’d rather we incrementally change rather than overhaul.

This why I failed my Maths A level. Could never get my head round them.

I don’t want to live in a post-Alli or Kelleher world

This is how good we have become. Not fully sold on a keeper who is possibly among the top ten in the world.

In my time of watching Liverpool, the only keepers that I would regard as first class are Clemence, Reina, and Alisson. Some of the others did a job, but they had their limitations and you could see obvious upgrades.

Kelleher looks like he could be in that top class, and his performances so far has appeared to back that up. He has age on his side.

Seemingly, we have signed another top class keeper for the future. It’s an embarrassment of riches, but are we going for the gem or the pretty pebble?

Honestly, instead it just feels like we have so many options for the future, and of many clubs out there we’re probably the one of the best-positioned for that.

Maybe we have gone for someone who can room with Kvaratskhelia?

At which point do we ask the very obvious elephant in the room question? Does Allison walk back into the team? Kelleher has been absolutely epic.

Yes. Arne himself has been pretty clear on this and has brushed the question aside like it’s formality.

Not to be dramatic but this might be the worst thing posted in the history of the Internet.

You’ve watched our last few games I take it?

Slot answered that a few days ago, yes he does.

Well,Allison is undoubtably one of the best if not the best keepers in the world. But CK has been immense in playing understudy and doesn’t tend to get weird 4 week injuries. I’m not saying he should stay in the No.1 position, I was asking the question.

If the club are planning to move on Alisson, I wonder if there is any chance to keep Kells? Make it a straight fight for the shirt between him and Marmadashvilli.

There would be a chance for sure. But not sure if the club would be looking to move on Ali, more if there’s a willingness from his side for something new. Or if he starts picking up more injuries. Not sure what Kelleher will be able to attract next summer, but surely part of him wonders about the possibility of remaining here as #1 and competing for/winning things. Questionable whether another Forest comes in for him or perhaps there is smoke in the Chelsea “rumours”. I think a new contract and a loan somewhere for a season or two is not what Kelleher wants.

We will know more in the next half a year or so, as Kelleher enters the final year of his contract, we decide what to do with Mamardashvili next season (here on another loan), how is Alisson’s fitness and if something comes in for him and he wishes a new challenge. From what he said lately, it doesn’t seem like it’s his plan, he wants to continue competing and winnings things at the highest level. But some things can change fast. I think Ederson got an important offer from Saudi last summer. I don’t think even the club right now knows everything what will happen in the goalkeeper department next summer and they don’t have to anyway.

And just for the info, I thought Alisson’s contract was up to 2027, but it turns out that it’s in fact until 2026 with the club having a +1 option.

its a valid question and definately not one just to be laughed off…

Allison is our number one…i dont think you were debating that…but lets say he declares himself fit mid next week, does CK just get replaced in that second…i mean, probably…but there has to be some form of reward and more importantly, precedent set, for back up players that come in, and play better than well…CK has at least made it worthy to be a conversation…deserves that much…

There’s an old adage that if you play well when you have the shirt, you keep it, and the other has to bide their time a bit.

In this instance there’s a clear number one and the expectation is Kelleher will make way as soon as Alisson is ready. I suppose the way we can massage that a bit is by giving Alisson plenty of time to be ready again. If there’s a huge gap in level to the number two goalie, there’s a sense that you can’t get your number one back on the pitch fast enough.

We are blessed by Kelleher’s level, so should avoid that sort of scenario.

Another fantastic performance again today, some may scoff, but I think CK deserves to hold the shirt.

Love Ali, but CK hasn’t put a foot wrong.

One thing I like about Kelleher and it’s a bit old school but he isn’t afraid to just launch it if it’s the other option is risky.
