Thing is, he’s very good at not launching it aimlessly when put under close pressure, but kicking it with precision (or at least keeping it in play), with both feet. Possibly better than Ali in that aspect.
Yeah it rarely doesn’t at least have potential to do something.
I just think Alisson at times basically holds on too long.
It’s one area that is a bit displeasing from an otherwise world class keeper.
Plus CK kept a clean sheet despite Virgil making a rare mistake
Can’t say I noticed him at all today, through no fault of his own of course. He’ll have tougher tests to come like he did v Southampton and Leverkusen.
Brilliant save towards the end when Virg fucked up?
Not noticing your keeper is actually a pretty good sign.
Love Alisson and no doubt he is still better than Kelleher but would not make a switch as long as we’re winning.
Just want to echo the Kelleher comments. He is brilliant, and even though we were well on top today, he showed peak concentration to save Virgil’s blushes late on.
I like the old adage that you don’t change a winning team (in the modern game you would add the caveat of workload). For the goalkeeper, if you are hitting the heights week in week out in a winning team, it is unlucky in the extreme if you lose your spot.
Is working a treat. He stays on the pitch.
Sorry Ali.
Keep him in, and let Ali work on his hamstrings.
Hold on, why on earth would he want to sell Alli? That surely wouldn’t make any sense? Why would he want to rip out one of the main elements of our spine ?
With Kelleher, I can see him leaving because he’s too good now to stay our number two (although I start wondering if he couldn’t be our future number 1), but Alli? As things stand, I’d try to keep both, and if Kelleher decides to move on, then I’d thank him for his fantastic contributions, and wish him all the best of luck for his future.
Alisson’s contract is until 2026 with a +1 club option. Had interest from Saudi, so it will be also a question for him, what he wants to do, etc.
Kelleher’s contract is until 2026.
We are heading into 2025.
So certain decisions and movements are not far down the line…
I wouldn’t mind Alisson being eased back into the team in a league Cup match in January. Kelleher probably should be playing this entire month.
We have the liberty to ensure that Alisson gets as much recuperation time as possible because the drop off between him and Kelleher isn’t too much.
Kelleher should be leaving end of this season.
And considering the absolute dross we’ve had as keepers from the mid 90s onwards.
Alisson is clear #1.
Reina vs Kelleher ? Who comes out ahead ?
Probably Reina. But it’s closer than we expect. Kelleher is better with the ball at his feet. Pulls out great saves too. Reina is probably better in terms of positioning.
The only negatives I see for Kelleher is that his positioning could be better (compared to Alisson who’s positioning is immense) and probably as a result of that he’s a bit handsy. Also he’s not as imposing a figure as Alisson is in goal.
Almost every other keeper in Europe would have something lacking when you compare them to Alisson.
I think we are increasingly seeing a time when the top players see us as the final destination club and not something as a stepping stone.
It might be different for Trent but the likes of Salah , Vvd , Alisson do seem to want to extend their stay in Liverpool as much as possible.
No.
He probably is. The distribution of his is something which often goes unnoticed.
Reina on the ball was one of the best of his time. He was brilliant in that aspect, had the natural motions and ability of an outfield player (even did a job in midfield at the end of the Kaiserslautern friendly in '06!). Kelleher is quality and getting the credit now from everywhere, he’s not unknown anymore, but some praises are over the top.
It seems to have gone the exact opposite this morning. You’d think it was a Karius post-CL situation.
Then again, social media is all about the hyperbole.
I do have a fair bit of sympathy as I hate crosses in the wind.
