Championship and Football League

Watford promoted

The play-off clubs are pretty much set too.

At least the play off teams have a couple of better sides in there. Hopefully we will be trading 2 decent teams for 2.

I want it to be Brentford, so it’s not going to be Brentford. :man_shrugging:

Hull and Peterborough locks for promotion to Championship.

3-6 is a lively race. Sunderland clinging to 3, Lincoln right on their heels.

I’d like to see Swans back in PL. Wouldn’t mind Brentford tho either.

Barnsley! Not a beautiful side to watch, they are direct and play high press, but I’d love to see them in prem. My dad would fly back to England as many times as possible to see them :joy:

He did same in the 90s during their only season in the top flight in their over 100 yr history lol.

Bournemouth are my second team so them, I wouldn’t be too disappointed with Brentford or Barnsley as it is nice to see some variety and Yorkshire (even as a Lancastrian) are underrepresented

Critical match today for Sunderland against Blackpool. Sunderland need to stay ahead of Lincoln at the 3 spot, and Blackpool trying to hold off Portsmouth and Charlton for the #6.

Never thought I will recognize so many teams from League One

League 1 has been fascinating for me. Follow it as closely as I can.

I also tend to follow lower levels of minor league baseball over here, so I am odd like that. Lol

You live in USA! How do you follow the lower leagues there? Not that I’m too keen on lower leagues, but non-major leagues do interest me.

I get ESPN+, which gives me a good choice of League 1…if it doesn’t clash with Championship fixtures.

Also found this streaming site called ifollow. Get a number of matches there as well.

Speaking of…it did turn out to be a bit of a shakeup today. Sunderland lost to Blackpool, and Lincoln won. Lincoln now in 3, Sunderland 4, Blackpool 5 and Portsmouth jumps to 6.

Brentford (81), Bournemouth (77), Swansea (77), and Barnsley (77) are set for the play-off spots with two rounds of games to go.

The 3-6 battles continue in League 1. Hull has secured top 2 finish, and Championship promotion.

Sunderland back to 3, but only on goal differential with Lincoln. Blackpool and Portsmouth are 5 and 6 respectively. Charlton dropped points and Oxford took advantage of it, to keep pace in the race for 6

Tranmere take the final playoff spot alongside FGR which means Salford kicking off late can’t get the playoffs regardless.

Oh dear Gary

Do anyone else feel the play-off thing is pretty unfair?

Brentford with 87 points (just four behind promoted Watford) is at the same level as Bournemouth with 77 points. There isn’t any relegation play-off between the 15-18 PL clubs.

The German system make some sense.

The thing it is evident that Bournemouth took their foot off the gas 3 weeks ago, once Watford confirmed.

Playoff system would be better if it was structured a bit more like some others in Europe, where 3rd and 4th benefit more than 5th and 6th in fact there is a 9 day gap in the season this year.

As for winning the playoff and then the third team getting chance to stay up, I dunno if that’s particularly fair

All set in League 1:

Hull and Peterborough promoted to Championship.

Oxford-Blackpool in first knockout
Lincoln-Sunderland in the second

Blackpool has been in good form, however Oxford has won 4 of their last 5.

(Noting Oxford manager has been suspended for 4 matches—including the playoff)

Lincoln playing well. Sunderland so-so. This is a toss-up.

I think one way could be for the play-off spots to be made up of 18th P/L and 3rd, 4th and 5th in the Championship.

Would be harsh on the team in 6th spot, but really 6th place is the 5th best loser - do they actually deserve that play-off spot?

The criticism of the German system is that it’s really hard for a big side to get relegated as they will have a lot more resources than the team trying to come up and leads to teams being perpetually in the bottom few sides of the Bundesliga but able to beat the team from Bundesliga 2 because they have all the income from being in the top flight. I think I’m right in saying Hamburg played numerous relegation playoffs before finally going down.

I’m not sure it is a great system to be honest.
