I’ve only been to Paris once. Went there with my wife on a mini-moon after our wedding. Spoke French. Massacred it much to my wife’s amusement. Stayed in the Madeleine area. Knocked up the wife on her birthday (virtual high-fives accepted). Daughter’s middle name is Madeleine. We both like the name and it was a nice link. Couldn’t have it for a first name though…
My cousins go to France alot and and not just for sightseeing. They are saying in the last few years that Paris is not all romance,
moonlight and roses as we think it is. There is an edginess about the place, you don’t feel safe in certain areas. One of the public transport is always on strike, they find the streets more dirty.
I thought UK is bad, but France has alot problems within their communities.
Been to Calais, Cannes, Cap Agde, Seite, Marseillan plage, the last 3 when I was much younger and never felt welcome.
IMHO the only people the French like are French and not even much …
I thought the French would be more friendly in the South. Parisiennes are known to be snobby, this is what my French colleagues used to say.
Whenever i have been there, I have had good experiences of France, especially Northern part and Provence region, except Paris, they were abit weird over there.
Same experience for me. I’ve been to Bretagne, to Normandie, to the North-East, on the South-Western beaches, in the south, in the Massif central, in Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Everywhere an overwhelming majority of friendly people.
Paris though? Not really great, many of them think that they are the centre of the universe, and thus live in delusion. But in the whole, French people are sound.
They are getting flak left , right and centre. This has become a matter of competency now for the Government ahead of next Sunday’s legislative elections and has become , unsurprisingly , a big election issue. You won’t see any wavering from this line at least until after the election.
UEFA has appointed some Portugese politician who sits on the doping commission to lead their inquiry. Just how ‘independent’ he turns out to be is anyone’s guess.
They are.
i love Paris, been a few times.
but there are scammers everywhere, your constantly checking for your wallet.
was there with now wife a few years ago, and a woman tripped and fell into her.
my wife caught her and helped her to her feet and the woman thank her.
first thing i said to the wife was check your belongings!
One thing I’m taking from the French political side of this is yet again we see someone picking a side then doubling down on it.
This seems to be way of things nowadays with no ever willing to admit they were wrong or back away from an untenable position.
What the hell is wrong with us?
Looks like the pols are all taking a leaf out of the Trump playbook ; Admit nothing , Never apologise. It served that twat well enough.
I wonder what Al Murray would say about all this?
They are generally but as everywhere else there are a few rotten apples and in big cities they have quite a lot of rotten apples
Gary Lineker is still on the case (links to a rather distressing video):
Some French newspapers confirm the number but they said that at most there were 58 tickets that were fake probably purchased from touts the rest were because of the readers failed to scan genuine tickets one of those tickets was Robertson’s friend and Matip’s Family.
Let’s assume there was a significant fake ticket issue. How is that on the fans, unless their argument is the fans participated in the fraud or knowingly purchased dodgy tickets? More to the point, any logistics planning for an even like this should include an approach for dealing with such tickets. I see no evidence of that here as seemingly all they did was try to turn people away with no exit for them. The argument the authorities seem to be making is the log jam was caused by the holders of these fake tickets blocking the entry of those with real tickets after they’d been turned away. What they dont seem to appreciate is that IF this is true then they are implicating themselves for having no way to disperse these people. Just expecting to turn them back into the crowd trying to enter is madness.
So even the best case scenario for them here is still admission of their fault.
I’m assuming that the targets of these words aren’t actually the ones who would think that much into it. Just need an easy target.
