Good article.

The final paragraph of this piece from today’s Guardian hit’s it on the head. You can bet your bottom euro that the Paris police won’t be acting the same way when Paris stages the Olympics.

Unless there is a radical improvement in French policing, unless the incompetence and brutality is rooted out, how can Uefa allow France to host a major game again?

As usual: corrupt people supporting their pairs.

Only partially related, but the head of the French FA has today announced his willingness to step down after being embroiled in months of controversy. He was needlessly a dick about Zidane in response to renewing Deschamps contract and has since been facing accusation of a txoic workplace including sexual harassment. FIFA immediately responded by saying if he wants to step down they will give him a position heading up the French bureau of FIFA.

Just breaking… UEFA have agreed to compensate / reimburse fans caught up in the mayhem…

Good, this is the very least they can do.
The fans should travel compensation and next year’s Champions league match should be free ticket.

UEFA are rich they can afford it Personally, i would take UEFA to court for defamation, endangering the life of supporters, plus i would sue the French Police.

It’s good news but it’s unfathomable that it happened at all. This was the French authorities making a statement of contempt.

It is baffling to me. Ten months on they are trying to spin refunds(!) as some kind of magnanimous gesture. Refunds on paid tickets that were invalidated by incompetence while the buyers were kettled. I am amazed that UEFA is not drowning in credit card disputes. Taylor Swift’s Ticketmaster fiasco has so far been a bigger deal than UEFA calling in riot police because their ticket system had a bug.

Sometimes US-style torts are not a bad thing. UEFA should be faced with tens of millions in punitive damages, and somehow they are trotting out refunds a year later as some sort of gesture.

Surely they are doing this on legal advise. It’s probably a gest that will save them millions in the longer term when the legal actions taking place come to some sort of conclusion.
These institutions never do anything in good faith!

One assumes the fine print accompanying the refund waives any right to any future compensation/legal action.

Not convinced. But dont expect anything to happen at the rugby anyway. Need to wait for the next big footy event.

I must have missed the bit about Darmanin admitting to , and apologising for , his lies.

How does 7000 more problematic riot police make it better?
Anyway the sports minister is powerless, it’s only what Darmanin does and says that makes any difference and he’s the biggest fuckwit in France!
