Cliques? Or not?

So the forum has been branded as a “biit cliquey” by a relatively new member.

I believe that new members are always welcome and their fresh viewpoints might be of benefit to the debates. I also think that newer members might need to get to know the place before offering negative opinions on other members, without anyting to support those views.

To cliques…
There are members I gravitate towards, as our opinions match or whatever. There are posters to avoid because spats lead to ill temper etc…but by in large it is a fairly open and decent place to discuss and debate.

I reslly don’t believe that sharing ideals leads to cliques being formed. I remember Cynicaloldgit had a few supporters but they were hardly a clique in the bigger picture?

It’s an interesting observation, though I don’t see much evidence for hhe theory.
Anyone got any thoughts?

Interesting you made a thread for it.

To expand on what I meant, for thread context, I pretty much know who the 4 or 5 posters will be who like any post disagreeing with whatever topic I am discussing.

That´s what I meant by cliquey.

Interesting that you chose to respond.

Could it be that they disagree with you?
Or perhaps they dislike your method of debate?
Are they immediately a clique because they’re not im agreement with you, or indeed any poster?

Well you did make a thread purely addressed at something I said. Just adding context.

I´d guess option 2. A dislike. Bit petty in my view but forums can have that.

Before discussing the subject, it’s worth agreeing with the definition of a clique, and how it applies to the forum.

Since a main component of a clique is excluding other people from joining the grouo, then no, there are no clique on the forum.

I am a supporter of left-wing politics, but not everyone who disagrees is a far right racist cunt. But they do exist unfortunately.
I know you’re being tongue in cheek to a degree, but I’m not sure if any lefty clique exists in here?

Try having a conservative pov in a politics thread and you will quickly find out how cliquish it can become, and how often people will become personal, and constantly attack everything you post.

i think politics can be an outlier though, as it is a very charged subject.

i wouldnt call it a clique…

yes i think @Mascot , @SBYM and @Noo_Noo all have very similar leanings and will often be engaged in the same debate…but they are hardly a ‘clique’… i think ‘cliques’ are more like sheep that follow each other around agreeing with everything each other say in a baseless way…

BTW, ,Mascot, SYBM and Noo noo… if they were…IF they were a clique… ‘worst clique ever!’

I remember a few years back there was a clique who for want of a better term we can call the 48 per centers and then there was another group who were right.

TBH, I don’t really look at the political stuff too much.
I have my personal political views, but each to their own I suppose.
But opposing views aren’t always at the behest of cliques or groups. I dislike pile ons though, and at times it can be difficult to be honest without it looking like you are joining in with a kicking.

I think there are varied opinions, mostly the right of opinion is resoected, save the occasional scrap.

I don’t see cliques. Posters of the same opinion on one subject are not always of similar positions on others.
I share some viewpoints with @jaffod regarding refs and corruption, though our political views may be quite different. I shared similar views with cynicaloldgit, but we ended up intensely disliking each other. No cliques there.
