Cody GAKPO: 2022/23

So anyway, as I was saying…

Average position at HT was very wide left, even slightly below Robbo and Nunez (who was also more on the left). He did better when we moved him central and switched the structure. But there was a massive gap central when I looked at our average positions at HT. In that case, one of Gakpo or Nunez needs to occupy a more central zone. Klopp mentioned it post match that we attacked half spaces too much and forgot about some other spaces.

You can make a case that we were trying a 4-4-2 (a bit reminiscent of our Villa away win), but the players in positions we had was not what the game needed for us to break them down. I don’t think we created a single proper chance with the ball on the floor (Virgil, I’m looking at you, should’ve scored from that header), apart from Jota’s shot.

Gakpo has withdrawn from the Dutch squad for the Euro qualifiers because of a ‘viral infection’. Here’s hoping it’s a very short-lived viral infection.

Apparently, quite a few of the Dutch players were affected. I’m guessing Novovirus as that seems to be doing the rounds at the moment. Basically, violent expulsion of fluids from every orifice for 48 hours and a couple of days to rehydrate. Not pleasant but not serious.

Pretty much all my friends that are parents deal with this on a weekly basis - either from their own orifices, or those of their children. Nursery’s are a cesspit for it - assume changing rooms much the same

My wife is a paediatric nurse. Unless you are wearing full biohazard kit when one of the kids explodes with it then you will be infected. My wife had it last weekend and we have all been affected since. One of her colleagues lives in the Netherlands and says that their local Kindergarten was wiped out with it. It would only take one of the Dutch players or staff with small children to get infected to spread it right around he squad.

Rather that than a small strain, as that’s usually 2 months.

The word is now that the 5 have food poisoning from a curry with chicken.

According to Koeman it is not food poisoning but a virus :eyes::sunglasses:

I always share my curries with a chicken. What they lack in table manners they make up with charming repartee.

Maybe they should have had the vegetarian curry instead :eggplant:

NEW: Cody Gakpo has rejoined the Netherlands’ international camp, having been sent home from the squad four days ago. #lfc [liverpool echo]

Yep, gotta get him back ASAP for that cruncher they have against Gibraltar ffs.

Gakpo was a second half sub, so over the shits then.

Love his first touch and turns.

Wait until he has a full preseason under Klopp.

Wait until he’s in a side that can actually get on the ball

Where are we selling him? :unamused:

Usually like his first touch (arguably the best of our forwards apart from Bobby), but today it wasn’t his day. And that dive was pathetic.

Yeah you don’t want to see that but it wasn’t half as pathetic as the team’s performance 2nd half.

Gakpo was one of the best of a bad bunch today, lively on the half turn playing in that #10…tactically fouled a fair few times to stop him breaking away, the chance he had which I think was offside in the end he showed few lovely touches and composure to get the shot away.

Another excellent performance.

Going down as a successful piece of business in my books, 40m well spent.

6 goals and an assist in 15.

I look at the likes of Utd what they did with Sancho then Antony and Newcastle what they did with Gordon and I almost feel bad.
