I’m not that surprised. At his previous club he wasnt asked to do a lot of this stuff.
I just never get the need to write off players so quickly. Especially when coming into a team which in itself has been so out of form.
Even if they have a bad game or aren’t showing much, where’s the benefit of calling it out? (that’s a rhetorical question)
Yeah Eredivisie is a strange league for signing players, seems like they either become legends (RVP, RVN, Suarez, Robben, Kuyt, Frenkie, Eriksen, Bergkamp etc) or absolute flops (Kalou, Babel, Bergwijn, Weghorst, Depay, Antony, Martinez etc)
Think we watched the World Cup games together, I’m sure you saw what I saw which was a player, raw player, but with a lot of talent and an eye for goal…only other games I watched him in were the Europa games v Arsenal just before the WC and he looked bright.
Like most I wanted a midfielder (or 2 because I’m greedy for this club) in the winter, but I was excited when we signed him and very happy he’s here.
What a signing, credit to klopp and Co.
He played brilliant 100% and I like him as a player. but definitely could have used that money for a midfielder. I’ll die on that hill
He won’t score a better goal than these two in his career, especially his second which lifted my soul as high as a Type O Negative album. The audacity to try those shots… Unbelievable.
There’s still that conundrum in my head about the best positions for him and Nunez but I hope they continue making me think hard by scoring a brace each in the next 300 games they play together for Liverpool.
I still can’t believe he tried those shots.
Wait till you see the 3 he gets in Madrid.
Always looked like a central player in the PL to me but I really like how fluid he is. He can do a lot of what Firmino can do, and will surely improve at this given more time - but he’s slightly different in that he does naturally drift wide as well as vertically. Sometimes that works really well, like today and sometimes that might make us a bit toothless or lacking a focal point to the attack.
We’ll have ti see how it goes but I think the quality of his goals today will give him a lot of confidence that he belongs at this level - no doubt in my mind he does. He’s been really good since getting that goal against Everton.
Is he going to score 2 as we dismantle Real Madrid?
Not so much about the club but the league in general being played at a much slower tempo.
The grounds he made up for his 2nd goal I think he almost ran 3/4s of the pitch, very pleasing indeed.
Ah sh… you beat me to it!
Glad he’s finding his feet. Like others I was quite unconvinced by his early performances, but seems like he’s carving out a defined role in the team, and it’s good to see.
It’s not all black and white.
First few games I don’t think he was 100% (or still isn’t) or ready enough for us and our problems. So it was unfair to judge him seriously. But it was clear that his first touch is good, the way he receives the ball, is able to keep it, manipulate it in small spaces, combine with players…
So I wouldn’t say this is now the passed test and everything is suddenly great after being suddenly bad. Give him the full pre-season, physically firing, more in sync how we play, I think he can go levels above this. We don’t have to rush with conclusions, this is still in football terms a promising start to his career.
Didn’t even play 10 games for us. When he’s fully firing, I think there’s every chance he can still build a career here regardless if it’s central or left. But it’s nice if he’s really motivated to learn the central role. With Bobby leaving, we will still definitely need those elements to mix it up in some games. And have Nunez or Jota as different options.
Whatever happens in the near future and next season, we’ll see. If it’s him more from wide left or central, how does Nunez evolve, etc. Main thing is that Liverpool as a group gets the best combination, I don’t care who plays more or less.

We still have Diaz to come back. Its going to be interesting to see how this all fits together next season
I learnt a long time ago not to prematurely write off players under Klopp. There haven’t been many big money signings who have failed under him. Most players are bought with a clear idea of what we’re going to do with them even if it’s not immediately obvious to us. Just need to be patient. I like him. In fact I like Nunez/Gakpo/Mo as a three. Even before yesterday you could see how it all might come together with a functioning midfield behind them. I don’t know if Gakpo will turn out to be a great signing but early signs are promising and he was unplayable second half yesterday. Absolutely brilliant performance and the finishing was world-class.

Except the 2 midfielders it seems we are well covered for the front 4 if we go 4231. Nunez/ Jota on top and Diaz/ Nunez - Gakpo/ Elliott/ Carvalho - Salah / Elliott as the 3. Jones could be the at the left or centre of 3 as well.
The holding 2 midfielders have to be prime Hendo Thiago type to make it work. And then whoever stays from Fab Hendo Thiago along with Bajcetic as cover for the 2. This is assuming Milly, Ox and Keita won’t be there next season.
Imagine the potential carnage if we’re behind one or two goals in some games and chasing it…
Salah Gakpo Diaz/Jota
Nunez

Double Six
Salah Gakpo Diaz/Jota
Nunez
We may need it two games from now; we are 3 goals behind!
Around the 40th minute I started a conversation in my head about Gakpo, I concluded it with him deserving at least a season to get going.
20 seconds later he is scoring the first goal.
Coming to a new club takes time, it really hasn’t taken him that long.
Scoring is great for confidence and if that was an issue for him before it certainly isn’t now.
He looks like he is firing on all cylinders, long may it continue.
Certainly as usual, Klopp knew what he was doing ,wanting him, it would seem!
