The links have been coming throughout the window and now Pearce has confirmed the City interest. Dependent on two wingers being signed.
Pearce on it? So not going to happen. I’m glad.
Personally, not surprising he would be happy to go given the shit he got last season. Think a lot of the people who offered platitudes regarding Araujos treatment at Barca could probably do with a spot of self reflection regarding Cody (and other players).
From a squad building point of view, at least its dependent on replacements being signed unlike the Diaz sale last season.
He’s one note which can be frustrating at times, but better than he gets given credit for and has played an important role in us winning some trophies, including #20. If he does go I hope he’s shown the respect he deserves
Inconceivable? Really? Didn’t stop them selling Jones when we needed at least 2 mids.
Dependant on us making two signings?

I get the Spurs thing but since when do we let one of our players go to Man City? That surely won’t happen, right?
Sterling was the last one I can think of

We should keep Gakpo, just to piss City off. If he goes, it’ll come back to bite us on the arse .
I’m very reluctant to criticise our managers, but WTF is going on with these Gakpo stories. I mean, what the heclk are we doing?
Fuck city. We should keep Gakpo because we need him!
Of course, he’s joint top scorer. We can’t afford to let him go.
I would keep Gakpo and play him in the middle, as AMF. He is not a winger, never will be. Let WIrtz play left, Rio as his sub, Barcola and Munoz on the right until Minteh is ready.
I almost forgot, fuck City and fuck Spurs.

I give a few weeks before you’d say he’s not an attacking midfielder and never will be.

There’s too many issues to be letting Gakpo go.
Even if we looked solid and Gakpo was not needed, I wouldn’t let him go to city.
I look at it in a similar way I looked at Diaz’ transfer last year (though I think that Gakpo has, on the whole, had a more consistent output at Liverpool than Diaz) - a good player but not an irreplaceable one. Gakpo has also turned into something of a one-trick pony over the course of the last year, so we definitely need more variety there.
While I do have my reservations about Barcola’s transfer, I would be OK with Barcola and Ngumoha sharing the left wing spot and Minteh and Munoz sharing the right wing spot. Midfield and fullback issues would remain but that’s more down to coaching and planning mistakes made throughout the past few years, that’s a different topic altogether, too.
I mean, they’re irreplaceable if, like with Diaz, we don’t actually replace them.
I dont get why if 2 wingers come in then Gakpo has to go? He is our best front player at the moment. He knows the league.
Do we want no depth at all in this squad?
I can only assume it’s money related. Either we need to offset some of the cost of Barcola/Minteh/Mbaye fees and Gakpo is the only viable option or we’ve shit ourselves over the contract we’ve given him and see it as an opportunity to offload that. Maybe a bit from column A and a bit from column B.
I think it’d be incredibly shortsighted of us. We let Diaz go last summer and that felt like we were one short plus we had no real alternative to Salah. Now Salah is gone too so in my head we could have done with three if there’s any chance we need Gakpo to do some time up top.
Two more in plus Gakpo leaving is still one short in my book. Shuffle them round as much as you want but there’s still a hole.
