As always, a significant portion of the supposed inconsistency of opinion about a thing on a forum can be explained by the different arguments being made by different people.
I dare say there are a few people quite excited at the thought of getting decent money for Cody that can be used i the market to improve our team. They were likely the loudest critics of him last season and through the summer.
I would be if this came two months ago but at this stage IĀ“m thinking is it worth the money to potentially risk not getting somebody good to replace him, or wasting money on players who arenĀ“t much better, to be honest.
Selling him at this stage seems a lot more risky than if we had done it 2 months back in my view, maybe also as I have seen our level of ability in the market now.
One of the concerns I raised with the Diaz sale last summer was that we seemed to be under valuing the risk of transfer dealing. Diaz was replaceable, but he was reliable and valuable, so it was a very high bar to achieve it. One of the core principals of the Graham-Edwards era success was an acknowledgment that every transfer was a risk and your overall strategy should reflect that and you go to lengths to avoid exposing yourself to risk. Instead we acted like we thought that because we were well run and do it right the only possible outcome was our genius moves would work and in the process we undervalued the cost and potential for a move or combination of related moves not working out.
Putting together a strategy that moves on Cody to fund the introduction of a new more expensive player in his role seems a move out of exactly the same thinking.

I want three signings if Gakpo goes. Maybe Minteh is all but done, apparently not but we seem to have two different opinions on it.
Well if City think Savinho is worth Ā£75m +10m then theyāve set their own market for Gakpo at upwards of that.
Only thing I can think is that itās too good an amount to turn down which it probably is. But Barcola, Munoz, Minteh and Ngumoha is a very raw group. Barcola is your most senior at 23. Minteh and Munoz making big steps up from relatively modest starting points and Rio is still a kid with a lot to learn.
Iām starting to wonder if the idea is less about building a team to compete for the league title in the next 1-2 years and more for the 3-5 years after that.
