nah, sorry, but it’s delusional to think teams are willing to pay £100 million for Cody Gakpo. As I said, 75-80 is far too much imo, but it’s possible teams will pay it I suppose. I’d expect a bid for Gakpo for around £60 million
Transfermarkt tends to be a good indicator – they have him as worth 60 mil euros, so closer to £50 million.

Savinho is part of a plan to get Marmoush for £60m next summer. That’s their business.
Neither Gakpo nor Savinho are great players but with Savinho they could have for 3-4 years and still have resale. Gakpo wouldn’t.
True. Nevertheless gakpo has a certain value for us as long as we have such a thin squad, imho.
As it stands now, I’d keep him. If someone, a striker/winger comes in, fine. If not , play the crazy inflated market game (though we might have played a part in the beginning of the mayhem)
Id rather see us get some quality into our midfield asap.
I think we’d struggle to get 100mil for him given his level and age, but I do see the logic that Savinho cost that much and hasn’t had that level of output or close. Though he is younger and expected to improve a lot.
So if we got 80mil for Gakpo now, what would we do with it? Perhaps it’s needed for cash flow for Barcola but otherwise, how would we use that money? It’s an important question for whether letting him leave is wise or not.
If it’s to bring in somebody like Minteh, Sarr or Mbaye, it’s probably not worth the risk.

We just need to make do till Ekitike comes back. Ideally , I’d want Danns to be in the team but I don’t know where exactly he stands in terms of making a return from his injury. Koumas , I guess can slot in as backup too
Based on what though? He had a good season at Girona and came to England with a lot of hype. Immediately he looked out of place in the English game, lost his spot and was never trusted again.
Gakpo was a hyped prospect for years coming out of the Netherlands and has gone on to have over 50 international caps, 181 Liverpool appearances and 51 goals. He’s made 35 or more PL appearances every full season and has only failed to get to double figures in goals last season - 9.
Savinho is going to have a pretty major resurgence to get to the level Gakpo is at right now and while I agree 100m is silly money for Gakpo I can also see the argument based on fees other players have gone for this summer…
Tonali, a sicknote who can’t run, when he plays is inconsistent at best and carries a suspicion that he’s got a cheeky bet on the next yellow card is a 100m player this year.
Morgan Rogers has had one really good full season at Villa. Last season he had a month where he scored 6 times. Outside of that he got 4 goals in 34 appearances. 117m player.
Mateus Fernandes goes for nearly 90m after his second relegation in two years and he isn’t even a full international for Portugal.
I’d take 80m for Gakpo and that money could probably be reinvested but I don’t think it’s outrageous to say he should be priced higher than that. I bet he has a better season than Savinho no matter who he plays for.
I said it elsewhere but somewhere along the road we got it twisted and clubs started playing a premium for potential. Paying full whack for what might happen in the future. That’s backwards. You’re supposed to get potential because you can get it cheaper and then you bear the burden of developing it. If you’re going to spend that kind of money get the finished product.
When I go to Ikea I know I’m paying a lower price because I have to build it myself. If they were more expensive than just buying the built table I’d buy the assembled one.

I don’t want us to sell Gakpo, but if we do, we should be looking to get 100m for him.
Reminder that last summer Bayern wanted him and he was their first choice before they turned to Lucho. Iirc the price suggested was similar to what Diaz went for, so 100m is not much for Gakpo this summer with all those crazy transfers. Jackson is 65m ffs…

Yeah but Gakpo has actually shown he can perform at this level. Savio may get to that level one day but he’s not looked like he will so far.
There’s a weird skew in the market where potential seems to be valued more than proven ability.
They’ve set the market, no reason we shouldn’t use that.

To be fair, goals or assists per minute played is actually pretty similar between Savinho and Gakpo across all comps.
I’m curious if other fans would evaluate it the same way. Do they rate Gakpo? Would Spurs fans be happy buying him for 100 mil?
