Evening Klopptinho, it is very grounding to hear of you situation/experiences and I admire you being so open/honest.
I will be honest in that I have had very little exposure to people who received benefits but an insight. I guess that a lack of exposure to this can lead to stereotyping and also unfortunately, the public in general remember people abusing the system rather than have understanding of the majority who are honest and genuinely rely on any assistance.
One example of this is blue badge holders and I am guilty of this. The amount of people I have witnessed abusing this system is astounding, however, I donāt notice/remember the higher percentage of people who actually rely on this.
I hope I have understood your post correctly, in my eyes there hasnāt been a government that has understood and also still a large percentage of the population who donāt including myself. So please, if you are comfortable in being so be honest.
This may help some to gain a better understanding of what the system is like at this moment. Some might also realise they are entitled to things they didnāt know they were.
I was meant to be going ! butā¦
One of the things with disability benefits and blue badge holders is that some disabilities are invisible. A person may have a terminal illness that doesnāt have a leg missing, need a walking stick or be in a wheelchair.
Some blue badge users will have that blue badge for someone else in their household or family - some are carers doing errands for that person but some do abuse it. It is difficult to know which is which so easier to be judgemental.
, your right maybe I was a bit gung-ho with that statement.
However, maybe we could have a thread where, instead of bitching to each other about things we can not control, we remove all biases and actually ādiscussā the actual situation as it is rather than on generalisation. Instead of trying to win argumentās, actually try to advise and relate to experiences (first or second hand).
Its just a thought. * Disclaimer, My idea may have been as a result of too much Gin or suffering from heat stroke.
I completely accept what you are saying and you are right, all disabilities are not visible. I will hold my hand up an accept I have been judgemental. I am not going to go into my annoyances regarding issues like the abuse of the blue badge, because in the end the positives completely out weigh the negatives.
Using less is key as it benefits everyone apart from the gas producers. Unfortunately, that is something that requires state wide coordination. That hasnāt existed in the UK for years.
My last quarterly energy bill in April was Ā£388, when I got my next bill Ā£825. It was an estimated bill, i had to fight to get it reduced to the actual usage of energy in th house. I now switch everything off from the mains except the fridge and freezer. My food bills have gone up by 30%. I remember a 4 pint of milk was Ā£1.15, it is now gone up to Ā£1.65 in my local Sainsburys. I have stopped Sky subscription a few months ago. I havenāt have a pay rise in years.
God knows how many people are going to get through the winter, especially the elderly and vulnerable living on low incomes
