Curtis JONES: 2020/21

He was out with a muscle concern yesterday, by the way.

I would play him over Wijnaldum.

I’m a bit mystified. Why didn’t Klopp use him at all in those eight games between March 7 and April 19! I know Klopp doesn’t want to play Jones extensively due to his age. Anyway, good to see him back.

I’ll still do. Jones is our future, Wijnaldum our past.

Personally would have had him on a lot sooner last night, same goes for Ox, both Gini and Mane looked spent at times.

Ox is the right person for the remaining games to shove up top especially if we are winning as he was everywhere when he came on, helped null the threat

Odd thing is Klopp did it against WHU with Curtis and it reaped rewards so I’m surprised he hasn’t done since.

Jones’ best position is LCM, which clashes with Thiago who is currently in-form.

If he can’t adapt in midfield then there is an issue. I get Left side and right side defenders but that’s a bit OTT.

It’s good to take young players out of the side for a few weeks to work on their game in training. Curtis will come back all the stronger for it.

But then again, with our injury record this season, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if he was ā€œfitā€ but carrying a little injury.

Thiago unfortunately doesn’t play LCM for us (yet). He was mostly the RCM. And if you look this season, Jones also played a lot of stuff at RCM, especially earlier this season when he had a little run in the team. I agree though, I’d like to see more of our ā€œcreativeā€ CM’s (Thiago, Jones, Keita) to play from the LCM side. I’d especially want Thiago at LCM from next season when Gini leaves, though he’ll have to battle a new midfielder as well. The rest is up to them and merit. Jones is different, he’s younger, more versatile, takes more risks than Thiago (who is more of a preparator), can cope in different areas and then attack the final third more. It’s got to do with our structure, I sometimes have questions why we do certain things in central midfield.

I am trying to get to see a vid of the second half. Before the assist Curtis had a little run down the left beating two men before passing . I would like to see it again to see just how good it was. It barely got a mention during the game.
Thought he did well against WBA as well . Did something we rarely see, made a run into the opposing box and found space. Sadly it was wasted as we lost possession. A little later , when Nat and Rhys were caught flat footed and an Albion striker was in behind them with a good scoring chance Curtis flew past our defenders and the opponent to cut out a clear scoring chance but it hardly got a mention from the commentators. I just think had it been one of the United or Chelsea blue eyed boys they would have been raving about what a good prospect he is.

He has a remarkable ability to do lots of things well yet somehow seem anonymous. Even when he was miles away the best player on the pitch, and bent that goal in against Everton in the FA Cup, the rest of the country forgot his name two days later.

Wow, he has clocked nearly 2000 mins. He was almost ever present during Nov-Feb.

Is that Divock in the background?
